Yesterday I went in to have a u/s to measure my cervix dilation and effacement. The tech found that I am 75% effaced (a 25% change from 2 weeks ago), and my Dr. sent me directly to L&D to have the baby monitored and for me to be checked further.
I'm hooked up and found to be having contractions 9 minutes apart. The nurses kept asking how long I had been contracting, I kept saying, "Month and a half? I mean, I get them like this constantly." I wasn't even thinking it was a problem and they were really concerned. My problem, and what I was there for, was to figure out why I have so much pelvic pressure and pain. And it's because there is .9 out of 4cm left of my cervix.
They decide to keep me for a while, because as I'm having contractions the baby;s heartrate drops. I get a cervical check, no dilation thank goodness. However, the nurse says, "Feel that?" and I can feel something bumping inside of me - I think it's her fingers. She says, "It's the baby's head. She's pushing against your cervix she is so far down."
DH almost passed out in the chair next to me.
Once several hours pass, my Dr. calls me and says she's putting me on strict bedrest - I have been on modified the past 2 weeks. I can take a shower and use the bathroom. She put me back on Procardia for contractions and said I had the option of staying the night or going home. I went home - I had planned on a short appointment to see if anything had changed and ended up in the maternity ward!
W're hoping to make it to at least 35 weeks so I can deliver in my hometown with my Dr. If not, I have to be flown to the nearest large city. Just thought I would update and give some of you who might go through pre-term/bedrest an idea of what to expect.
Re: 2nd time in L&D, 33.3 weeks, upgraded to strict bedrest
Wow, you didn't know the baby's head was that low. Glad the nurse checked to give you an update. No telling how much longer you would have gone just thinking it was boring fruitless contractions.
Good luck to you and your baby.
