Anyone have a coffee table other than just a traditional rectangular wood one? Care to share pics?
Ours is low, sharp edges, in a tight-ish space, etc., and we've always said it will eventually need replaced if/when we have kids. Well, we just found out my friend from OOT and her two kids will be visiting for Christmas, and it has me thinking about how terribly UN-kid-friendly my house is! Since we need a new coffee table anyway, thought I'd ask and start thinking about it.
Thanks
Re: Kid-friendly coffee table?
We have a large rectangular leather ottoman/coffee table. It's nice because there are no sharp corners, plus it opens for storage. HTH!
I am coffee-table-less, but my MIL has a great one that she bought when she got her furniture. It's oak-stained (not sure of the actual wood underneath), has rounded corners and is on wheels. It's the kind that lifts up to be a regular-sized table, so it's good for when baby's not around if you're working on a project and want to do it from the couch, and the bottom of it is only about half an inch off the ground (when on wood floors) so it's impossible for little ones to crawl under the table and bump their heads on the underside.
Best part of all? Because it's on wheels, we're able to push it around between other large pieces of furniture so it acts as a barricade to keep our nephews within a confined space. At least until they're big enough to climb over it.
Edit - I read your post as wanting traditional rectangle tables so I'm not sure that my response is helpful. lol!
We just bought new tables for our family room. We originally had glass top tables with really sharp corners. The glass top actually broke TWICE on the tables so I knew we weren't keeping them around once dd was mobile.
Here is a link to our family room tables. I love them. They are very sturdy because of the tiles in the table and the edges aren't sharp at all.

We have tables almost identical to these in our living room (we bought them 4 years ago so I couldn't find the link from the original store). They have rounded edges which make them very kid friendly.

This is what we have as well. I have a cute serving tray like thing on it that we put our glass on and stuff for a hard surface.
