ok, i realize everyone has very different personalities. I am very bubbly and outgoing, while my MIL is quiet and acts like an 80 yr old woman, so i am trying to just understand why she acts the way she does.
she's not over doting to H whatsoever. she will pull in my driveway to get eggs (we live on a farm and have chickens) and not come inside to see H even though she can go days, if not weeks, without seeing her otherwise. So I figure, ok, she must be busy. Fine.
Well, today, she was parked right next to me, walks up to my car window (I am sitting in the back with H), so i excitedly roll down my window and say "hey hannah, here's grandma!" and she says "j's been trying to get a hold of you on the phone, he needs you to pull forward" and goes back to her van. Says NOTHING to H whatsoever!!!
that's her granddaughter. blows my mind.
Re: does anyone else's MIL act like this?
This does not shock me.
My MIL lives less than 15 minutes away.
She has seen her only grandchild one time (the day of her birth).
ONE.TIME.
FIL is the same.
They don't even ask for pictures or call and ask about her.
They're awesome.

wow, that's worse than mine! is there family tension? do they have other grandchildren?
I think that is sad too. My mom will make a trip to my house if she feels she hasn't seen her enough that week. My mother is obsessed!
MIL is out of state and has only met her once....Step MIL is obsessed with DD too but would never come by the house just to see her, we always have to go over there. So DD sometimes could go a month without seeing SMIL who lives 10 min away.
I'm fairly certain they don't care for me. But to be fair, they were pretty crap parents to my DH so it's not like much has changed.
They actually do have another g-kid but she doesn't live nearby.

Don't get me wrong- I think it's sad. But - you are assigning YOUR "role" of what a grandmother should be to her. And that's obviously not "who" she is.
I dont' understand it! Trust me. but... some people just are not that kind of person.
What kind of mother was she? Does it make any sense based on how your DH was brought up?
