Diaper Genie or Champ?

Hi ladies!  I'm expecting my first baby in January and wanted to get your opinion on which you like better.  My husband has a very sensitive sense of smell so I want to make sure that whichever one I get won't knock him over when he empties it! I know the Champ uses regular trash bags which is a bonus but I've heard it doesn't contain the smell as well.  Any thoughts/opinions?  TIA!

Re: Diaper Genie or Champ?

  • We have a diaper Genie and we never smelt anything. It had to be changed every 3-4 days though, and the refills got really expensive. Now we use a small trash can. As long as we change it every 3-4 days too, we never smell anything. I spinkle baking soda in there also.

  • We have the champ. We liked that you dont pay for trash bags to go in it like the genie requires. And honestly it didnt start smelling until we started regular foods. Now we just stick an airfreshner in the bottom of it and we havent had any problems. We get the dollar airfreshners at target they are round and have sticky tape on the back. It works just fine. And out little one is almost one!

  • Well, our Diaper Champ doesn't smell that bad when it's not being used.  But sometimes when you turn the handle to push the diaper down, it does smell.  But I love it.

And the smell isn't any worse than a poopy diaper.  Will your husband be changing poopy diapers?

Its not bad but I'm not sure there is anyway around the smell of a diaper after solids....gag.  Especially after sitting for a few days in a diaper trash can.

  • we use the kitchen trash can and rarely smell anything, even the poopy diapers on solids aren't terrible to be honest.

This. I really liked the champ when she was small, and then after we'd been on solids for a while, I got a small simplehuman step can that uses grocery bags. We now use that and just change it every day or so.  The diapers after solids are stiiiiiinky!!! As a newborn, though, I think the champ was great. The simplehuman can would be too small when you're changing so many diapers every day and who wants to empty every single day.
