I posted this on the baby names board too but I though some 3RD TRIMESTER mommas would understand my strange thinking a bit better.
My husband and are having a little boy. We loved the sound of Zachary with the middle name William. (It's a tradition in DH's family) However I can't stand the way it's spelled. I think the H in the name makes it look like it would be pronounced like CH as in church not CK as in quack. I first thought to spell it like some people do: ZACKERY. The problem is I hate the E. So I thought up spelling it: ZACKARY. My husband dose not care. I love it but am worried the people will make fun of it because of the odd spelling. What do you guys think?
Re: What do ya'll think?
I don't know any Zacharys who don't spell it that way.
No one is going to pronounce your LO's name like Zatch-ary. I promise.
This was also a thought or worry. I would hate to have to teach him to say... "my name is Zackary with a K not an H."
Also.... the nick name common with Zachary is Zack right? People spell that with a K? Maybe I should spell is with the H and call him Zack.
I've always seen the shortened version spelled as "Zach"
There are a lot of words in which CH is pronounced as a K sound: stomach, school, technical, character, choir, orchestra...
I prefer traditional spellings in names. I don't think people will make fun of the alternate spelling, they may just have trouble getting it right every time, but my name is spelled the traditional way, and people always misspell it with an alternate spelling.
That's what i would think.. if it's a really short name than its fine, but having to constantly spell your name (one that's suppose to be simple) must be annoying.
People will always see that spelling and wonder if you and DH were uneducated or just didn't know how to spell, neither of which is a good thing.
This.
NO one will ever get the spelling right and it will only cause him to be annoyed later in life.
