Pedi recs for Hershey/Harrisburg area?

I'm sure this question has been asked a million times before... but the search function never works quite right, so I'm asking it again, if that's okay! :)

We're moving back to my hometown in the next couple of months. My family knows some of the pediatricians at the Hershey Med Center just from living there, but I'd love some recommendations from other moms based on your experiences with your LOs. I'd be willing to drive for somebody great, but preferably not more than 20 minutes or so (meaning practices in Lancaster, York, etc are probably out).

Somebody supportive of breastfeeding and vaccinating on an alternative schedule (not skipping, just staggering) would be ideal.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Pedi recs for Hershey/Harrisburg area?

  • My sister used someone in Hershey that she loved.  Dr Nelson I think??  My youngest niece had quite a few health problems when she was younger.  She recommended him to me  but it is too far for me to go with working full time and stuff.  I go to Tan and Garcia in Harrisburg and I like them so far.  I know they are big on breastfeeding, not sure about the vaccination.  I know they aren't giving the H1N1 vaccination because they don't feel enough research has been done about long term effects.

Let me know if you need me to ask my sister for me information on the one in Hershey.

  • I use the Peds at Hershey med and LOVE them.  I have always gotten an appointment ASAP when I needed them including the weekend (Saturday and Sunday).  I do not know their views on staggering vaccinations, but I'm sure they would accomodate as they have been very accomodating on several of our issues.  Good luck in your search.

  • We go to Tan and Garcia and they have a alternate vaccination schedule for parents, like me, who want to stagger vaccinations.

We also use Peds at Hershey Med on Hope Drive.  We've been seeing Dr Murphy on the recommendation of the Peds Dr who seen our son at the hospital.  From our two appts thus far I really like her and feel comfortable with her.  She was very supportive of my BFing.  I don't know their thoughts on an alternate schedule.  I also like the office itself as well.  They've been great with answering any questions we've called in with . . we called about his cord stump twice this week.  I also like that they have evening/weekend office hours.

  • Thank you so much for your input! I've actually heard good things about the Tan and Garcia practice, and they were top of my list. Also, Banbear, I'd love to know the name of your sister's pedi, if you can get it!

If anyone else has any other recommendations, I'd love to hear them....
