Breastpumps

Does anyone have experience with the Medela Lactina? I found out today that my insurance will cover this breastpump 100%. I was actually looking at getting the Medela PIS because I will be returning to work after Baby & thought this one looked easier to carry back and forth. It looks like I will need to buy a bag for the Lactina (not a big deal) - just wondering if it will be difficult to carry around.

Re: Breastpumps

  • Are you sure you mean the Lactina and not the Freestyle? Or does it just cover the cost of renting a Lactina? The Lactina is a hospital grade pump, mostly for multiple users or those who pump only. The Lactina is definitely a lot larger and heavier than the other Medela pumps. I can't imagine it would be easy to carry back and forth to work daily.

  • Yep - the Lactina. Or that's what the Insurance person told me over the phone...although she seemed annoyed that I was asking for specifics - so who knows if she really knew what she was talking about. Thanks for the info - I really couldn't tell by researching it on-line.
  • My insurance paid for me to rent the symphony or lactina but not buy one. Like the pp said, those are hospital grade pumps and not even sold at retail due to cost. If its true for you that super awesome as they are like $1500 pumps. But yes it would be a PITA. The lactina is big and I don't think it uses batteries. The carrying case is solid plastic and very bulky.
