Crib Rail Protectors

Allie has started to chew on her crib rails.  I've been looking at various rail protectors but am not sure which way I'm leaning (padded velcro vs gummy stick on).

If you have used one, which type did you use?  How did you like it?

She has a convertible crib so we need the wider width.

Re: Crib Rail Protectors

  • We bought a clip on kind that did not work at all.  So, we tried the gummy ones, we only used them on the two shorter sides, which is where he gnawed on the most.  I haven't tried to take them off to see how they affect the crib afterwards, but they are startening to loosen up on the ends.  They worked, but I'm a little worried about taking them off!  What have you found as far as padded ones?

  • These are the padded ones I've found.  They seem pretty basic.  I've been trying to decide if I can make something similar for cheaper or if I should just go with the gummy ones.  Allie only chews on the front rail right now.

  • I'm going to sew one, sort of like the padded kind.  It doesn't look too difficult.  It's going to be my next project, after I finish her christmas stocking.

  • The gummy covers are pretty pricey, and you would need to get the thicker kind for the front rail also.  I like the idea of the padded kind, and you could probably make something very easily!!

  • I made mine from fabric.  I just got a very long strip and cut it into 3 long strips that would wrap around the top of the rails.  Then I cut in between the rails and knotted it together.  It is really soft and doesn't look half bad.  I spent about $15 and an hour of my time.
  • What kind of fabric did you use?

  • Well I'm not super crafty so I can't really tell you the name.  But it was really soft - it's the same type that is on her changing pad cover.  Not the towel like kind but the kind with the bumps on it.  Let me see if I can find a pic.
  • SO she looks kind-of drunk in this pic but it was the one that showed the most crib :)

I just tried to edit this to change the size...

  • I don't know the name of that fabric either but I definitely know what you're talking about.  I may have to try that out.

    Thanks!
