Were they rude?

or am I weird?

I like making cakes and appetizers so when my friend's wife who is also my co-worker told me that she was having a bridal shower for another co-worker at her house I offered my help.  She told me that she had a tight budget and was only doing a veggie tray and queso dip, I said I'd bring pizza dip and offered a cake.

We got there at 7:10 when the party started at 7:30.  The house was TRASHED.  There were clothes everywhere, papers scattered all over tables and my co-worker was making food in the middle of it all.  I jumpped in and helped while DH watched DS in another room.  So at this point not only did I make 2 cakes and pizza dip I was helping with the rest of the food and cleaning this girls house.  I want to let you all know that I don't mind any of this.  It is something I'd do for almost anyone.  It's just her actions today that weird me out.The party was weird, people were akward and didn't talk much.  DS skipped his nap so we were lucky to stay until 8.  As we were saying bye I told the hostess that I put everything in a tin pan so she could just throw it away.  I only wanted tupperware that I brought the cake in back.  It was weird because neither the hostess or the bride thanked me for the food.

I went to work today and there wating for me in the breakroom were my cakes.  One was almost half-eaten in the tin and the other was round and looked like someone scooped at it with a spoon.

Is it rude that she returned my half-eaten cakes in the dirty tupperware?

Re: Were they rude?

  • Um that is so rude! Plus to not even thank you for your help is ridiculous

  • Indifferent WTF?  That was definitely rude on their part but what did you expect considering the condition of the house/location of the bridal shower?

  • I'm going with "bad manners but not a capital offense."
  • After all that I think you are lucky to get your tupperware back.
  • Some people are really strange.

  • Wow! The whole thing is just rude!

Make that the last time you help them.

  • There were a lot of rude things going on in your story!  Yes, it was rude to have returned the cakes to you in that way.  It was also rude to have a house so trashed when you got there 20 minutes before the guests were due, and VERY VERY rude not to have thanked you for the food you brought and made!  And your help cleaning up the pigsty!  Nothing you can do about it, but if you wanted confirmation that the behavior was rude, you got it.

  • I was thinking the same thing.  I was just worried that I may have been a bit too intrucive.  Just looking at the cakes pisses me off more and more!
