broke an old thermameter today

uhg! I was freaking out a bit.  I called poison control and they said it is not a big deal.  Told me to just clean it up with some index cards and double bag it.  Gave me the DEP website to find out how to dispose of it.  A quick google freaks me out again.  WTH?

What should I do?
