I keep looking thru my registry to see if there is anything I can delete! I regsitered for the chico infant carrier and base along with the convertable car seat for when the baby is over 25 pounds. Just feel like there is a lot of stuff on there that I will need before the "older" carseat and would rather get those necessary items first...
What did you end up doing? Did anyone get the older seat as a gift but not the infant carrier/seat?

I would delete the one - safety factors change and things are often recalled. I am dealing with a new seat when LO is almost grown out of the one we have, besides I don't really want to store an extra seat for a year.
For DS, we only registered for the infant seat. But that being said, we got a number of gift card to Buy Buy Baby (we didn't register there) and with a coupon and those gift cards, we were able to get the Britax Marathon for about $25. So if you want other things more than a convertible car seat, take it off your registry, and possibly put gift cards towards that purchase.
We registered for both and received both. We were very fortunate our family was so generous. Had I just gotten the convertible car seat, I probably would have returned it and purchased the infant seat or something else that was more important.

I only registered for an infant seat (when I was pg with DS). In retrospect, I'm glad I didn't register for the convertible. You learn a lot when you already have a kid, so you develop preference BESIDES what Baby Bargains says or what color is pretty. Plus, you don't know how long it will be til you need the convertible. We made it to almost 8 months and I had to switch him. Other people have itty-bitty kids and easily pass the 1 year mark in an infant seat.
When I was registering, all I heard about was how great Britax is, and that is what I would have registered for in a convertible. But I didn't buy one. I bought the Sunshine Kids Radian 80, which isn't available at BRU or Target - so it wasn't even an option for my registry. The other seat I considered was a Recaro, also not available at either store. Both are super-dupper safe, in the same price range...but weren't on my radar while I was pg. I think I would have missed out.
We only registered for the infant seat. I felt like it was too much to add a toddler seat as well.
We will shop around when its time for her to graduate to a bigger seat. Who knows what will be out then!?
Glad to hear your opinion on the Sunshine Kids Radian 80. This is the seat we registered for and we were able to find it at both BBB and BRU. I used our registry as an organizational tool for our likely future purchases (not just a potential gift suggestion list). If we end up purchasing the convertible seat ourselves we'll wait until LO is nearing 20 lbs.
We registered for a travel system and a convertible car seat, but we are only really hoping to get one or the other (as a "group gift" maybe?) so that we only have to purchase one or the other ourselves.
When I was on the fence about putting the convertible car seat on the registry I thought----completion discount.
