When should my mom visit

in 3rd Trimester

My mom lives 10 hours away and wants to know if I would rather her come a couple weeks before the baby is due to help with things around the house (since I plan to work till my water my breaks, we'll see how that goes), or do I want her to come after the baby is born and help DH and I then.  I work 3 12's and am gone from 6am to around 8:30pm (due to drive time).  It would be nice to have some help before because DH stays pretty busy at work too.  Anyone have an opinion on which would be more beneficial.

    I guess that is a personal preference. Do you have alot of stuff for her to do before? Like would she be cooking and making those oh so controversial freezer meals? Is DH comfortable with her being there? My sister has offered to stay a few days after LO is born if we want but I have yet to decide.

    I'd think you'd need more help after. Keep in mind that a person's water breaks only about 10% of the time. gl!

    My preferance would be after the baby comes, but it totally depends on your situation.

    If you have tons to do before the baby comes, it might be helpful to have her there before.

    DH and mom are like 2 peas in a pod.  She is a great cook and is very laid back.  He said it is my choice. Either way he wants her to make homemade chicken and dumplings which I hear can be frozen Wink

    I would say she should come after the baby is born because then she can help with household stuff AND baby stuff... if she only comes before, she will only be able to do household stuff

    also, then any meals she cooks can be eaten fresh (vs. frozen! ) Big Smile

    IMO I would say after.  I think my mom would get on my nerves if she was just hanging around my house waiting for the baby to come.  I personally would take the rest of the time you and DH have alone and enjoy it without your mom, and once the baby comes have her help.  Plus, I'm kinda type-A, and I want myself and DH to be the ones getting everything ready for LO to come.
