Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Tell me about induction

I just found out that I will likely have to be induced early due to some complications.  I always thought I was going to have a late baby, not early, and induction hadn't even crossed my mind yet.

How bad is it to be induced?

Re: Tell me about induction

  • Just a lot of laying around waiting. For me, I waited 40 hours because of some complications. I didnt find it bad at all other then it taking forever.

  • i had a good induction. i was favorable.

    7:30 pitocin

    8:30 water broken

    12 epi

    1:45 ready to push

    2:50 baby was here.

it can go well, just be open minded and remember that you and your baby's health is the greatest concern.

    good luck!

  • Different for everyone.  Mine was fine - no complications.  I was stuck at 3cm for quite some time, but then after I got an epi I went from 3 to 8 in an hour.  Start to finish was from 6:30 a.m. to 4:06 p.m.
  • it was a great experience for me!! from the time i was hooked up to pitocin to the time i delivered it was 9 hours...i would do it again in a heart beat!

  • It wasn't bad for me.  The induction part was the easiest.  I did have some complications- one i think was related to induction (certain medications they can give you to soften cervix can cause hemorrhages- I did have a bad hemorrhage after I delivered).  I even expressed my concerns about that medication (I can't remember the name of it).  My doctor assured me in the small doses they were going to give me that there weren't any risks. Looking back I would not risk it.  But, the worst part was waiting to get a room! I had a scheduled induction, but so many women were in active labor they kept giving them the rooms.  :)  So, I had to wait a couple hours before I could get a room.  Then they hooked me up and started one medication to soften my cervix.  I got 2 doses of this several hours apart...before they started me on petocin.  It was a long labor- 24+ hours.  But, I was able to get an epidural whenever I wanted.  All in all it wasn't bad.  THE END WAS WONDERFUL!  :)

  • Its not bad, I was induced at 41.5 weeks. Just be openminded its all for the baby. I had pitocin, 2 hours later water broken, then was stuck at a 5 for a few hours, my nurse was awesome and made me lay in strange positions every hour, which got things moving!

My delivery was a little rough due to the cord being wrapped around three time, so I had an episiotomy and forceps had to be used.

But honestly it was not that bad, GL!

  • mine was easy. i had been at 3cm and 80% effaced for a few weeks so they induced me because i live 2 hours from the hospital. mine went like this...

    7am- start pitocin

    11am- epi

    12pm-break water

2pm- turn off pitocin (my body took over)

    7:30pm- start pushing

    7:48pm- happy birthday!!!

  • Mine was great, I was induced at 39 wks 2 days b/c the baby was getting too big.

I got to the hosp. at 9 and was 4 cm already and having contrax 8 mins apart (I didn't know that I was having them-I thought they were BH-oops). ?I had no idea, but I was in labor already so the pitocin just helped it along I guess. ?I got hooked up to pitocin at 1030, got the epi at 12 then had my water broken. ? Had my baby at 3:20 after 5 pushes. ?I ended up with a 2nd degree tear and 1 little hemi. ?The baby at the end made it all worth it.

I didn't wait long, felt no pain the whole time & the baby at the end made it all worth it. Good luck!

My dr said that since I was soft and dilated already I would go fast, he was right. ?If you have any progress at all you should go faster.?

  • I was induced via AROM & it was a piece of cake.  I would only shiit myself if I was going to be induced with Pitocin.  It hurts.  Not to scare you if that's how you are to be induced though!  I only received it to augment my labor during transition & I didn't use pain drugs.

  • It's really not too bad. My contractions did come pretty hard and fast but that wasn't too bad. FI and I came equipped with movies, music, our laptop, magazines...we knew it would take a while.
  • I have had three births the firs two were scheduled inductions because I never go into labor on my own, but the last one got started and I did not know what to do. I think the induced labors just took longer. I was all prepared for this last one to take just as long, I had my DVD?s I-pod and all. 45min from arrival to delivery no time for anything. LOL!
  • It was fantastic!!!  I was fortunate to have such a positive birth and induction story to share..

    6:00am- arrived at Hospital

    7:00am- Pitocin was started

    7:30am- water was broken

    9:00 ish- epidural was administered

9:30-10:00- epidural worked, they had to administer more medication

    10:00- 11:30ish- labored down, etc

    12:00pm exactly- Ryan Matthew Arrived!!

  • My induction was great. Cervadil for 12 hours, pitocin for 15 hours, epi @ 4cm, 22 minutes of pushing (6-7 cx) and no tear! I was "favorable" but I was only 1cm and like 30% effaced when they started the cervadil. I had an extremely positive induction experience- they aren't all bad!
