It didn't take long for S to become a confident walker, and we had only bought him one pair of soft-soled shoes by then. If he's not yet walking but trying, I would only buy one pair and then when he's walking buy him a good pair of Stride Rite. That's what we did and he'll be able to wear his stride rite for several months.
DS does really well with his Robeez- I tried a few pairs (See Kai Run and Stride Rite) with thicker soles and he refused to walk in them. ?We'll probably try Stride Rites next now that he's become a more confident walker, but for now, the Robeez are great!

Another vote for Robeez...or the knockoff Ministar brand at Target for half the price of Robeez. (Although, the Ministar's didn't seem to wear as well as Robeez. DD wore a hole by her right big toe in 2 pairs of Ministars but I know other people that don't have a problem with them.)

No shoes is best
But of course with it being winter and outdoor play etc - we liked Stride Rite best.
