Babies: 9 - 12 Months

daycare moms on table/finger foods

I feel like DD gets the same foods most days - don't know if that's a problem.  Bfast - rice cake or waffle and yogurt or banana.  Lunch - carrots or caulflower and applesauce or mandarin oranges or peaches; snack = piece of cheese and 5 saltines.

Sometimes I throw some chicken in for lunch and sometimes I vary up what she eats when, but I'm kinda in a rut.

  • I suck at table foods. DD doesn't even get them at daycare yet.  She's such a picky eater at home, but she'll still let DCP spoon feed her, so we don't want to mess with the system until absolutely necessary.  Otherwise, she only wants to eat cheese sticks!  At least DCP can still get some fruits and veggies in her.  She eats banana, banana-cado, blueberry yogurt, and sweet potoatoes & broccoli all the time.

She won't touch most other fruits and veggies (as purees or finger foods).  It's starting to stress me out.

  • I am having such a hard time with table foods - I feel like we have no consistency. Right now I only do them for snacks at daycare. She spits out everything that isn't pureed. Even grown up applesauce is offensive. Well, she'll feed herself a few things at the beginning of the meal, but when it comes down to me feeding her to actually get some food in, grr.

I don't think you need to worry about variety in the case of nutrition, but you probably do want to start changing it up so she starts to eat more stuff. Maybe pasta and other veggies. I mean, the pediatrician said basically anything we eat. I don't really have a lot to offer.

  • Ravioli, tortellini and organic Mac-N-Cheese are hits in our house and transport to daycare well. I just make it, store it and they heat it up. (We also do pieces of chicken and veggies for dinner (stored in chicken broth for moisture)
  • Buy a food mill and grind up whatever you're having for dinner.  You can use leftovers for lunch the next day at daycare.

hmmm - yeah - these are good ideas.  We haven't done much pasta, but I'll bet she'd like it.
