Babies: 0 - 3 Months

how did you know it was 'time'?

What was the final thing that made you go to L&D? I'm having so many contractions, but nothing I cant deal with. My thought is to wait until either my water breaks or I cant talk or walk through a contraction to make the call. What did it for you ladies?

Re: how did you know it was 'time'?

  • Mine went from no problem to EXCRUCIATING very quickly, probably within an hour. It was very obviously time to go.

Hopefully it will be just as clear to you. good luck!!

  • my water broke.

  • I tried calling L&D to ask if I should come in because the pains i was getting started shooting down my leg.  The crampy feeling I could deal with, but the pain in my leg made it feel like I had an icepick stabbing into my hip.  When no one answered at L&D I waited an hour and it didn't get any better, so I went it in....

Then again, throughout all of it, I didn't know I was in labor til I got there and they said I was contracting every two minutes and that I was there til I had DD.

  • my water broke, but then I started getting the "you know it's time" contractions... I was always worried I wouldn't know and it would be too late to get an epidural when I got there... you'll know.
  • watch how far apart they are and if they are consistent or not. also try getting in the bath tub. if it's not the real thing, they should slowly start going away, if it's time then they'll just keep on coming and getting more and more intense. GL!

  • Thanks guys. I guess the not knowing what to expect is whats making me worry. I'm sure I will 'just know' when the time is right
  • I called my doctor when my water broke and he told me to go to the hospital.

  • I waited until the contrax were bad enough that I had to stop talking to DH to get through them, they were about 5-7 minutes apart for an hour.

  • My water broke ...
  • i couldn't talk or stand up. DH had to call the doctor for me.
  • I went when I trouble walking/talking through them. Literally. It hurt like hell.
  • I was literally crying from the pain, I guess thats how I knew!
  • I got to the point that i was having very timeable contractions and I had to lean against the wall and not talk through the contractions.  I felt sooo crampy and yucky five days before but this felt much more intense.

  • I was writhing in pain every 3-4 minutes, it was obvious. I had completely manageable contractions for 14 hours, had to concentrate through them for 3, then they got HORRIBLE within an hour.

  • contrax 5 mins apart for 1 hr and I got the shakes pretty badly too which kind of scared me.
  • I was in triage and the Dr. came in and said "its time"

LOL. I had an unplanned c-section so my POV might be useless for you.

  • My water broke. I waited till contractions were 5 min apart though.
  • I had mild contractions for two days.  If I walked around, they got stronger.  When I relaxed, they got less intense.  Finally, I called my Dr. to ask what I should do. (We had planned to break my water to induce labor in a few days, due to my history of VERY fast labors and because I live 45 minutes from the hospital.  I was already at 2 1/2 cm.)  Anyway, I saw my Dr, she told me that I was in labor and to check into the hospital to get the show rolling.  DD was born 1 1/2 hours after my water was broken.

  • I was getting a little winded during contractions and they were 2-3 mins apart. I didnt have real pain till I was at the hospital at 9 cm when they broke my water.

  • Mine went from crampy and 10 minutes apart to painful and 4 minutes apart - 3 by the time we got to the hospital.
