Help me figure out how much to pay MIL

MIL doesn't want to get paid for taking care of DD but I'm not having it.  I know that it isn't easy (as much as she loves her), she isn't working because she can't find a job, and while they aren't struggling they could use the extra money.

I've asked her to please let us know how much she would like but she has left it up to us.  I have no idea how much to give her.  I was thinking maybe $125 a week? Does that seem like too little? Too much? She's EBF so I provide the milk and I buy diapers and bring clothes/toys over.  That of course doesn't stop her from going on shopping sprees though (this morning she showed me 4 outfits, 4 pants, and a bunch of socks she bought her lol).

Any ideas?

  • Hummm...thats a toughie.I can see why she would say no to your $ but I would feel the same way you do and at least want to give her something.

I pay my babysitter $35 a day and she gets her 2x a week. I provide everything and I take her to her house as well.

I would say try offering her the $125- I dont think its too little esp. since she said she didnt want anything. If she doesnt take it, leave it on the counter or something- somewhere where she can see it. Im sure she will appreciate it.

  • I pay $3/hour. Ends up $150 per week and I provdie her formula, diapers, and wipes. If you want to pay her what you would have to pay a "regular" DCP I think $125.00 sounds good.

  • We pay our sitter $25/day for 4 days a week.
  • I pay my baby sitter $15 a day and provide everything. I seem to have it made. lol

  • We pay $150, but that is at a center. I think $125 is very reasonable considering she doesn't want anything.

  • We pay DS's great grandmother $20 per day. She suggested this amount. We supply formula, diapers, wipes, etc.
  • I pay my mom $100 a week and provide everything for her during the day so she doesn't have to spend a dime.

It's help us out, by saving us around $500 a month, and gives her some extra cash. I too agree that, while they love our LO's, it's still not easy!
