I know this is so lame, but I seem to be getting a LOT more emotional lately - must be the 3rd trimester hormone surge! We just moved to NC from Miami and are 1st time parents with no family or friends in the area. I was totally clueless about registering and what you really need, etc and BRU is kind of overwhelming to a newbie. My husband and I found a local store whose owner was super sweet and helpful to us and let us try out every product in her store. She even recommended items her own store didn't carry. She price matches all competitors and we were totally impressed. I posted a rave review about her store on the NC board because I feel like in this economy it is really important to support local businesses from floundering. Especially if they have the ability to price match.
Anyway, within a few days I got totally flamed for the post - called "lame" and accused of being a vendor, etc. Now, not only do I feel terrible, like I did the store a dis-service, but I kind of feel a little "unwelcome" on the NC board. People were commenting on the fact that I was a new poster with ulterior motives. Not really - I am a new poster to the NC board because I JUST moved to NC.
Stupid to have hurt feelings about what strangers think, but I feel bad that they think that the store set that up for advertising. Sigh. Whatever.
Re: Hurt feelings on the NC board
Sorry that those girls were crappy with you! I know BRU will ship to almost anywhere ...even Franklin, NC. You did something nice for the NC board... if they dont take advantage well then that's their problem.
Just be happy its not 95 degrees up there~!
I'm sorry you had that experience, but I just saw the post and I think you might be overreacting a bit. There was one poster who was particularly harsh, but several posters defended you and others appreciated your clarification after you made one. A lot of the local boards are sensitive to vendor posting because so much of it occurs and while it may be wrong to jump on someone right out the gate, it's understandable. Perhaps you should make an introduction post on your local so they become more familiar with you. Just my .2 cents. Hopefully you can feel comfortable over there again because I'm sure they will be a helpful resource. Good luck.
I'm sure that I am overreacting
and I feel pretty lame being the tiniest bit upset by it!! I just think some of those responses were unnecessary. Just ASK me if I'm am vendor instead of jumping to conclusions - I'll give every reference to show that I'm not! I just think that it is a sad statement that an honest poster can't write an honest review without criticism, just because it was a positive one. More than that, though, I feel bad that people think that the store kind of set it up. The last thing I'd want is to do them any harm, particularly among NC mommies, just by trying to be helpful, you know? I'm sure I'll forget all about it by the end of the day! This was just a little vent! Thanks for the perspective!
Well, I'm a poster on the NC mommies board, but didn't see your post and it's responses until just now.
However, have you checked back in on it recently? Quite a few mommies came back after you clarified and corrected themselves. Not to mention, it seemed to mostly be dbertagni & Mrs_M&M that were the ones calling you a vendor.
Who knows...maybe it was a bad day for them, or they've just seen a lot of vendor shamelessly posting on the boards.
I'm with PPs, though...I wouldn't let it get to you but so much. We all get reamed for something on one of these boards for one thing or another. Even Puppies & Rainbows gets flamed.
