back sleeprs- this happening to anyone else?

I know by this point I'm supposed to be sleeping only on my side. But I just cant help it. I'm simply most comfortable on my back. It's where I always wake up, and generally where I fall asleep too.

I've heard for some women you can sleep on your back much longer.. and once you start to constrict blood flow it will become painful. Until it hurts, is it really a problem? I'm worried I'm hurting baby and not even knowing it.

  • I still wake up on my back despite trying to wedge myself in with pillows.  There's been a couple times I've woken up and my hands were asleep.  Also, if I lay on my back too long, I can hear my heartbeat in my ears reallllly loudly.

I think you'll wake up or change positions before anything happens.

  • My midwife said that I will know when I shouldn't lay on my back anymore. She said that it would begin to feel uncomfortable.
  • If I really feel like I want to lie on my back, I prop my head up slightly with pillows.  It helps with the feeling of pressure I get when on my back.

  • I also end up waking up on my back.  I was told that it's probably ok as long as it's comfortable that way but just in case to prop my left hip a bit (an inch or so).  So now I try to have an extra pillow on my left so that when I roll from side to back, I land on the pillow.  Not as comfortable as completely flat on my back but I'm also paranoid that I'm inadvertently hurting the baby.
  • I usually sleep on my back, and it keeps from having sooooo much hip joint pain. I have found it comfortable to lay on my left side but with a pillow behind me. If I roll I'm not completely on my back, and I don't feel the pressure either.
  • funny, last nite i was refusing to sleep on my side but every time my blood starts to get restricted, my left leg would go numb and i would turn over...

  • unless it's uncomfortable to you, the baby should be fine. I am just at the point over the last week where I can't be laying on my back very long.

It's a sad day, I love back sleeping.

  • My doc told me I'll know when I shouldn't be laying on my back anymore because it'll be uncomfortable.
  • My OB told me the no back sleeping thing is a myth that evolved from the idea that it's not good for women to labor on their backs. Think about it, women have been having babies for years and I doubt our ancestors knew anything about back sleeping vs. side sleeping, yet here we all are.

  • I usually end up on my back at some point.  I remember with DD it did get too uncomfortable but when I slept on side my head would congest so I spent many an evening sleeping in the recliner
