Babies: 9 - 12 Months

6 month old, only 4 bottles?

We started solids almost a week ago. Ever since then, DS has slowly decreased his bottle intake. It was 5, now it's down to 4 (6 oz or so each). He's eating mid morning and evening solids. He's only getting about 1oz of sweet potatoes and 3 tlbs or so of oatmeal each feeding. Is he supposed to only be having 4 bottles at this point? I thought that didn't come for a few months. Today I only fed him solids once to see, and he still only took 4.

  • Meh...that's 24oz.  That seems pretty good.  My pedi told me at my 6 month appt that he should be drinking between 18-35 oz. a day.  So you seem right there in the middle.  Smile

  • That doesn't really seem all that unusual to me.  Unless you think he is sick or isn't gaining weight I wouldn't worry.
  • Ok, thanks girls. I just had thought the pedi mentioned it would be 9 months or so? Maybe I didn't hear her right. I guess I'll keep doin what I'm doing and enjoy the decrease in formula buying!

  • That happened with us at about 6 months too. He had been eating 2 meals a day and then just dropped his 10pm bottle. That was it. It might even have been a little before then since we started solids at 20 weeks. Our pedi was okay with it. He still gets around 24 ounces a day now though and he's on three big meals a day and snacks.
