Breastfeeding and Formula

So I wanted to be a EBF, but sometimes I was so tired that we decided to do some supplementing with formula.  We stayed using the Similac, what the hospital was giving us, but then my husband changed it to Enfamil when we ran out.  I was upset with him, but it didn't look like it affected it my baby.  So my dad stop by today and brought me some bottles of Similac formula, I'm concerned that it might be too much switching, but husband is yelling at me telling me that all formula is the same and that he highly doubts that people stick to one type of formula.

Are all formual's created equally?  I know Enfamil and Similac seem to be the most popular, but I don't want my poor son to be the guniea pig.

Should I be worried?

  • FWIW we supplement and we asked our pedi what she wanted us to use and we only use that (similac). I think I remember reading somewhere that if you switch formula you are supposed to slowly transition them. I maybe totally off and this probably isn't aby help, but I thought I read that. Good luck.
  • i don't think all formula are equal. my LO was on enfamil and had to change to goodstart because she had a reaction. Pedi said to try a different brand and see how LO reacts to it.

  • We went back & forth between those two at first.  DS didn't seem to mind.  We settled on using Similac but would give him Enfamil again if we happened to acquire some.

  • To some babies, there is a difference.  But, if your LO doesn't seem to mind either one and isn't bothered by the switch, then don't worry.
