Hello everyone! My name is Ashley. My DH and I live in Mayer, MN and are TTC. I got off of birth control in May and have not ovulated yet. I went to my OBGYN and did not get a whole lot of information. I am looking at getting in to see an RE for some help...does anyone here have any recommendations? Thanks!

Re: Any recommendations on an RE? - Infertility Issues/ T-TTC in MSP
I went to Center for Reproductive Medicine in Minneapolis. www.ivfminnesota.com
I highly recommend them. The doctors and staff are great!
I go to Partners in Maplewood. They are able to do most IF treatments. Their website is partnerobgyn.com.
Hello!
If you are open for alternate solutions, I have had a great experience.
We had been TTC for over a year with no luck. After numerous tests and scans, it was determined that I had only one open fallopian tube. I am also over 35, so it is just harder anyway for me. I tried Clomid and did conceive, however m/c in Feb '09. We had been TTC for about 1.5 years by this point and I was very confused and frustrated. I went to the U of M Reproductive Medicine Center and had a consultation with a specialist there about my problems. He recommended that I have surgery to correct my fallopian tube issue. However, I was very nervous about the surgery, and ultimately decided against it.
I have a friend who had had 5 miscarriages before having a set of twins using no standard fertility treatments. She swore up and down to me that her trying acupuncture and Chinese medicine is what helped her to have her twins. I found a practitioner in the Twin Cities who specializes in acupuncture and Chinese medicine for fertility issues. I had a consultation, then started a regimen of daily Chinese herbs and weekly acupuncture. She had me wait TTC for 3 months until the treatments could have a chance to work on my issues. Literally, the first month we could TTC again, my husband and I conceived! I am now at 19 weeks and credit all of it to my practitioner. We had been trying for 2 years, and I still have a fallopian tube issue, but the Chinese practitioner helped us TTC in one month of trying. I couldn't recommend her more:

Whatever you end up doing, good luck!

Thanks for the advice! Do you know what the approximate cost would be? Our medical insurance covers 80% for fertility treatments but I don't think it covers alternative treatments?
I think it all depends on who your insurance is. I asked my friend about it, and she had all of her treatments covered by her insurance. However, she had her practitioner say it was for back pain, not fertility issues. When I called my insurance company to ask, they do cover acupuncture, but only or back pain as well, and wanted proof of prior diagnosis of back issues as well as a host of treatments already completed before they would cover it. Ironically, I had done acupuncture in the past for back pain, but the other requirements I had not done, so I had to pay for the treatments out of pocket.
I can't quite remember my first consultation cost, I want to say around $160 maybe? Then the once-a-week acupuncture was $78 per session (I did them weekly until the first trimester was over.) The herbs were preconception only, and I paid about $25 per month, but the cost could vary depending on what they treated you for.
I have to also tell you about some background concerns I had which led me to trying the acupuncture route. I also had not been sure that I was ovulating at the time, so my doc wanted to try Clomid after the year of not conceiving. However, after using Clomid and having my miscarriage, I read more about it. Clomid puts you at a higher risk of miscarriages and problem pregnancies, multiples, etc. I also found a whole contingent of people online who said their insurance companies rejected them for insurance down the road when they tried to change plans solely due to their use of Clomid. The insurance companies don't want to insure people who use it because of concern over future pregnancy complications, fertility issues and birth problems. I didn't want to have this red flag on my future insurability, esp because I planned to quit my job after the baby is born, and hubby and I will be paying for our insurance out of pocket.
My friend who had all the miscarriages had lent me a book which is what really got me to pursue this course of treatment. Here is the Amazon link, and you can see what other reviewers had to say about how well it worked for them:

They also had the book at my local library, so you could check there first. So yes, it did cost me out of pocket for my treatments, but it was all worth it to me. Come to think of it, I should leave a positive review for this book too! :^)
