I used the Moby a lot more when DD was a NB but too me, it is very difficult to get off and on and I'm not the greatest at getting it on *right* and it always takes a few tries and then the kids are waiting in the car, getting antsy, etc. lol.
The Bjorn is great now that DD is big enough to sit in it comfortably. I use it all the time when I am out and about with both LO's.
I'm wearing my Moby right now! I bought a Baby Bjorn and ended up returning it and buying the Moby instead. Unfortunately I haven't used any other carriers so I can't give you any advice on those. The nice thing about the Moby, in my opinion, is the different holds that you can use. Post this on the AP board- they will be able to give you lots of advice.
i have the baby k'tan, which is like the moby, but you don't have to wrap a piece of fabric around yourself. it's 2 loops of fabric that are connected, and you can do 8 different positions. it comes with an instruction booklet, but it's really easy to get the hang of (i'm inept at figuring out hard things like the moby), and i can get it ready in about 20 seconds and put him in it, and he loves it - he takes about half of his naps in there.
Moby - We LOVE this, but it take take a minute or two to put on and
looks scary at first, but I swear once you've done it a couple times
it's not at all difficult. DS loves the Moby and will spend lots of
time in there, esp napping.
Ergo - have it, but not used it
yet b/c we usethe Moby so much and DS was so tiny. It's supposed to be
one of the best soft structured carriers and is very well loved.
Bjorn
- not good for their hips. I doesn't allow them to put in the correct
position and leave them "dangling". I would never recommend this.
Mei
Tai - this is similar to a Moby in that it kind of gives them same
holdoptions (google them, there are many brands, babyhawk is one,but
there is an Ebay sale on them right now for a great price here .
This is good b/c it works just as well for an older baby as younger
(many say the Moby doesn't last b/c once they are weighing more it just
stretches too much) and is a lot easier to put on b/c there is less
fabric to deal with and stuff.
Hotsling - DS didn't like htis
b/c he doesn't like the cradle holds too much and I found it very small
and constricting. It's also sized so that's tough when ordering online.
Ring
Sling- these are great b/c they are a ton of fabricbut you can do
different holds in them. So far I've only tried DS in the cradle hold
when he was really little and he is okay for a bit then doesn't love
it, nothing like his love for the Moby so we haven't used it again, but
I plan to soon trying a different hold.
DH loves using the Ergo carrier (with the newborn insert) and I use the Moby. There's def a learning curve to using the Moby (I was very frustrated at first trying to get used to how to wrap it). A friend of ours prefered to use a sling with her newborn (but I can't remember the name of the brand - sorry)
Either way, Owen loves to snuggling and snooze in the carriers
I love the Moby, I'm very chesty and I didn't like the Born/Snugglie type carrier. The moby also distributes the baby's weight so it's better for my shoulders.
Re: Need baby carrier advice: Moby, Ergo, something else?
I have both the Bjorn and the Moby.
