Last week was rough. I went for my 20 week ultrasound and we didn't get great news. There is fluid on the baby's brain. They sent us straight over to the hospital to get a better ultrasound/specialist (this is Northside Forsyth hopsital) too see what was going on. Basically normal fluid is 1 or below. We are at 1.02. Very close. The fluid could be caused from genetic disorder or viral. I was very sick a month ago and he said the virus could of entered my placenta and gotten to the baby. But the only way we could know what is going on is by amniocentesis. The dr stated I had 1 in 500 chance to have a miscarriage. That numbered scared me. Also he asked all questions about my down syndrome test and I told him I was 1/1100 (good number). No signs of downs. He said now with the fluid that I have gone up to 1% out of 100. Still not enough to make me worry too much about having downs. All measurements of the spine, limbs, head, neck and organs were excellent. Showing no sign of deformity. Weight was 12 oz which is good.
So basically we have made the decision to sit and wait until our next appt Nov 10th. We will not abort. If there is more fluid on the babies brain then he will refer us to a brain surgeon because when the baby is born it will have a shunt put in it's head to drain the fluid out.
I am trying to stay so positive about this since I have 3 more weeks until my next appt. There are so many positive things out of the ultrasound with that 1 negative. I was seeing if anyone else has gone through this. I have friends that have done amnio because their down's numbers came back very high. It is just something I don't want to risk due to my age (36) and what if nothing is wrong and I lose this child.
Oh and I forgot to say that my placenta hasn't moved. That was not a big concern this appt since I am already having a c section and the fluid took over the focus. So I will talk about it more next appt and see if it has moved any.
But with all these ultrasounds we did find out the sex. My husband was putting on the pressure big this time since we didn't find out with Nate. So we are on the blue team! Nate will have a little brother to play with. So cool!!!
Re: Prayers and anyone else have this issue?
I am so sorry for the added stress. I had a friend who went through the same thing and when she went back all was well and normal. Baby was fine. Actually this also happened to someone else I know from another board and her baby was fine also.
Take it day by day and try not to get stuck in the what if worse scenario case as the odds are still greatly in your favor all will be well. Will keep you in my prayers that time flies by and you get great news at your next ultrasound.
This happened to our best man's wife with their first son. They were very concerned and did the amnio and nothing was wrong.
I sending you T&P that everything turns out ok. Congrats on finding out its a boy!
I am so sorry you are going through this! You are all in my thoughts and prayers! I did not go through this situation, but I am also 36 and for other reasons, I did choose to have an amnio at 17 weeks. The peace of mind that the results brought were worth the risk to me. I am a need to know person if something is wrong etc. The test itself was less painful than a regular blood test.
I hope the next 3 weeks fly by for you and everything turns out fine. Congrats on a baby brother for Nate! So exciting!
You know I love you and you know that I have absolute faith that everything is going to be just fine with him. I'm here for you whenever you need me. We're sending out lots of love to you, Brad and Nate.
And yay for team blue! Not only did I win a bet with Peter for once in my life but I've also told Noah that his best friend will be arriving in a few months. :-)
Lots of positive thoughts headed your way! Congrats on your boy!

Hang in there!! My niece had fluid on her brain and it resolved itself...she turned out totally healthy.
sending prayers your way.
Just wanted to send hugs and prayers your way.
and Yayy Team Blue!
I'll be praying for you and your little guy. Fingers crossed for good news at the next visit!! {{{{{hugs}}}}}}}
First, Yay for another little boy! Nate will love having a brother I'm sure.
Second, I don't have personal experience with your issue but A good friend of mine did. The first US showed fluid and then they had another US a few weeks later and it has resolved on its own. I don't remember exactly the amount of time between the two US though. Baby was born normal and healthy and has developed right on schedule since then. Good luck with waiting and at your next appointment!
