UCSD Birth Center Denial

So I received a call last night from a midwife through the UCSD birth center who told me that because my 33 week 5 day sonogram showed DS in the 97th percentile for abdomen circumference, I am no longer eligible to birth in the birth center.

Just wondering if anybody else has experienced anything like this?

  • I haven't heard about that happening before! Do you know if Best Start would take you?

    EDD: 03/01/13;  DD: 10/26/13

  • IIRC you have to be under 34 weeks to move to best start... i made the switch at 32 weeks with DD. you could fudge your LMP by two days and call tomorrow if you were completely set on a BC (and i had an AWESOME experience there!) but it may bite you if you ended up going very early because you can't birth there until you hit 37 weeks, even if you are in labor at 36w6d :(

otherwise, i think i would ask for a second sono in a week or two to reevaluate the percentiles. u/s measurements/weights have such a huge error margin i think it would definitely be worth it!

ETA: oops. just saw your ticker. you are definitely too late for best start. but i really would ask in maybe 3 weeks, once you are coming up on your EDD, for them to reevaluate. a quick head measurement shouldn't be a long sono, and they may be more willing to do it if you emphasize that you are only wanting to check the measurements that will help you qualify for their BC.
