Epic Fail on photo shoot

So today was supposed to be LO 1st prof photos, plus we were having family shots done too.  It started out alright but quickly spiraled into an epic fail.  We were able to get maybe 3 family shots but by the end of the 3rd one LO was crying.  So we took a break to feed him, then had massive poopy diaper, then he just wouldn't stop crying.  Luckily the photographer was really understanding and didn't charge us anything. We're going to reschedule to see if we can get some more/better ones to add to the ones today.  I was so upset, I was really excited and had been looking forward to this all  week.  As soon as we got him back in his car seat and headed to the car he fell asleep which figures.  I'm the one that cried all the way home.

Any suggestions for tear free photo sessions?

  • Can you try to go right after LO has eaten?  If I take LO to run errands with me, we go right after she eats since it'll be at least 2 hours before she's fussy again.

  • He had just eaten before we got there.  I think he's going through a growth spurt. It's really keeping us confused, sometimes he'll go 3-4 hours without eating then sometimes he wants it every 1-2. Part of the problem is since he had just eaten we didnt think that was the answer so by the time we figured it out he was really upset.
  • We used a photog who took the pictures in her home and created a very baby-friendly atmosphere: the room was warmed and dim, the props were cozy and sanitized beforehand, and she was very patient.  It took over 3 hours (with two feeding breaks) but the pictures were great.  We had the pictures taken in the morning, during LO's usual nap time so she was mellow.

  • I, too, would like some tips!  I fed DD before DH's friend (who's an up and coming photographer) came over to take NB pics and she was so fussy!  We barely got any cute photos out of the 3 hours she was there.  Good thing she's a friend and just lives a minute away otherwise I would've felt bad!

  • I wonder if it would work to get there and then feed? My LO is awesome the first 10-15 minutes after shes eaten - especially when shes woken up then eats right after.
  • Have the photographer come to your home. A good photographer can find a suitable background or fade out a background if necessarily for a good picture.

We've done all of DS' except for the first set at home including the one below.

Also, if you are a bit nervous or on stand-by with a situation it is possible that LO is feeding discomfort off of you.

  • I am so sorry to hear that about your LO's photo shoot.  We are having pro pics done on friday and I just HOPE that it goes well.  His best time is at 9 am or at 4 pm so I am having the photographer come to our house at 10 am.  She also said to keep the house REALLY warm so DS will be more tired as well as feed him right before we start.
