winter coats & carseats?

I want DS to be warm when I take him to and from daycare, and any other errands we have to run.

To me it would be unrealistic to put his coat on and off each time we get in and out of the car because then all that cold air would be hitting him anyway. But arent you not supposed to put a puffy coat on when they are buckled in the carseat? 

So what are you doing?

    I am just bringing a big cozy blanket in car seat to tuck her in while she is strapped in.

    I live in the frigid tundra (otherwise known as MN) and it gets REALLY cold here. We put the kids in fleece jackets (LL Bean and Lands End both have good ones) in their car seats and then put blankets over them. When it's seriously frozen, we put thick jackets on them just to get them to the car but take them off before we buckle them in.
