So I had a craving for chocolate chip cookies and bought the refrigerated dough. While cooking, I popped a bunch in my mouth (love the stuff). The next day, I had some more. All in all, over a week, I've had about a half cup of raw cookie dough, a tablespoon or two at a time.
I told my BFF who says that it is a risk for listeria infection!! I read the package and it does NOT say pasteurized, so I'm worried. I'm going to call my OB on Monday morning, but today (Sunday) I don't feel sick at all so I don't think it warrants an emergency call.
Have any of you experienced a listeria infection, do you know anything about it? Should I be in more of a panic and call the OB today???
Re: Ate raw cookie dough!! Oh no!
(read it. you know you want to.)

Ok *Sigh* that's what I was hoping I'd hear. I was thinking, "This has to be pasteurized" but I read every inch of that container and it said "Do not consume raw" "Contains eggs, milk, soy" "Keep refrigerated" And I just thought "Maybe I should motivate on calling the OB" But I also hate to be the annoying pregnant lady who calls every day with a new panic, you know?
Thanks so much. I'm not puking or sick so I think I'll just hide the stuff from myself and pick a new craving!!!
I'm sure you are fine, and really I think its such a slight risk anyway.
I've had raw cookie dough too - its pretty much impossible to avoid if you are baking cookies!
Yep, you're fine. As PP said, you'd pretty much be violently ill if you'd contracted listeria or salmonella. My dad had salmonella poisoning once (from handling raw poultry) and there was NO mistaking it.
If you're ever wanting cookie dough and are worried about it just pick up some cookie dough ice cream--all the "raw" dough in there is pasteurized to death.
The average incubation period for listeriosis is actually about 3 weeks, so you most likely would not be sick yet.
Where I work we tell people to mark the date of exposure on your calendar, and then if you have symptoms in that time period (technically up to about 2 months after exposure to listeria) you would want to let your OB know for sure.
I'm definitely not saying panic, because it's probably fine. Just wanted to clear that up.

GENIUS!!!
Thanks everyone, I feel much better knowing I didn't risk LO's health for some cookie dough! Although, I won't be having any more, for sure!!
