I started something that might be bad....

I sewed a fleece Dora blanket for Brenna.  It was supposed to be a Christmas present, but she got her eyes on the fabric before I sewed it, and would flip out every time she saw it.  She would go get it, and pet it, hug it etc.  So I decided to make it and just give it to her since we need bigger blankets for her anyway.  So I did.  She LOVES it.  She started screaming DORRR-AHHH at the top of her lungs, had to touch every Dora on the blanket over and over, saying Dora Dora...you get the idea.  It was a hit.  The blanket HAS to be in the room with her when she is home or she will ask for it.  She sleeps with it, plays with it etc.

Should I just go buy more fleece that has the same pattern for when this one gets worn?  I am worried that I just started something that is impossible to keep up with.  Can you tell that I was terrorized by DS's crazy Barney obsession? I have never witnessed anything like this with DD until now.

  • LOL!!!  That's super cute!!!  And yes, you probably need to sew at least 2 more fleecy blankets with Dora on them.  How about some a pair of fleecy Dora pants and a jacket too??  Think she'll be just as obsessed with those too???? :P

  • Hah!  She does have a fleece Dora sleeper that she loves.  I am thinking I might do another blanket with a different character on it to see what she does.  Maybe Elmo or (eek) Barney.  I have some cute kitty cat fleece that I am planning to use.  My fear is that the notable lovey of her childhood might be this blanket.  In that case, no other fabric will ever work should I need a replacement.  Oh lawd...what have I done?

  • You never know, it may last a long time....DH's brother still has a blanket that he sleeps with!  He's 29!!  It's a very sad looking blanket these days!
  • I always wanted Ethan to be "attached" to something and he never did.  All of a sudden he got attached to a certain blanket, loving on it, and now he doesn't sleep without it.  When I cover him with another blanket, even with the lights off, he knows immediately and throws the others out of the crib or push them away, lol.  He has gotten sick in his crib on his blanket in the middle of the night, and that has presented a not-so-fun problem when it has to be washed right then!!  SO, I would definitely recommend making one or two more.  We bought an extra to keep at my grandma's, but I think I need to get another extra one for home.  HTH!

  • If you can, I'd make a backup. I worry about this, too-- Leah's lovey is a monkey we got at a zoo out of town. I don't think I'll ever be able to replace it and I am TERRIFIED of losing it! I remember that my cousin had a blanket she was obsessed with and her parents left it at the neighborhood pool when she was about 4 and the family still talks about how traumatized she was until they found a suitable replacement. If I were you, I'd sew, sew, sew and make some backups!

  •  For some reason both of my kids became attached to certain blankets at a very early age.  I have three of each and I'm grateful because it makes it easier to clean them, travel with them, etc.  My mom forgot DS's blanket one night and it was complete hell for them so I try to always have one on hand now.

  • Make a few more and be grateful.

The only thing DD seems to be attached to is me. She can pretty much take or leave her toys. The only "toy" that I would say she loves is her kitchen. I am the only person/thing that will do when she is tried or feeling bad or sad or...you get the idea. DH gets his feelings hurt and it is not pretty.

She is also starting to get attached to her babies but cries horrible when she tried to put this one (she is electric because she cries and moves and part of her body is cloth, so she can NOT go in the bath with her...bad bad thing when I took the baby away. Finally the second time I learned and we pretended the baby was in her own bath when DD took hers.

  • HA!  Dora is the one who put an end to my "no characters" rule, lol.  Ava has a Dora outfit, t-shirt, backpack, cell phone, etc.  I'd say you better make some extra Dora blankets!
