Keeping LO Out Of/Off Bookshelf?

this has been a huge problem in our house lately - DS goes to the bookshelf and tears everything off of it. Other than getting tired of picking everything off the floor 10,000x a day, im worried he might pull the shelf over on himself. And yes, we have tried keeping him away but he goes right back...and the little booger is quick!

Anyone have/had this problem and found a solution?

  • 1) empty shelves

    2) wall tether

  • this was a fight that i was just going to lose.

i moved the book shelf to a different room. it was in her play area. and YES she should 'know' not to go and touch mommy's books- however it just wasn't happening.

not the best solution- however it is rectified.

This is what we did too. Only put things on the lower shelves that she's allowed to play with.  ANd make sure it's secured to the wall.

  • there was NO way I was moving the wall of bookcases to another room. We tethered to the wall and then I spray painted tension curtain rods black. (so they wouldnt be so obvious) I packed the shelves with books to that they were tight in the bookcase, and then used the tension rods to keep the books in. I did this on the bottom 2 shelves of all the bookcases and the problem is solved. He tested them the first few days and tried to move the rods or the books. I have them in so tight he just couldnt do it.. and now he doesnt even try.

  • I agree with mlf if you are able to empty some shelves. Since I have so many books that our bookcase is overflowing we just put ours upstairs where he can't get at it. Good luck!
