So I think Jake's officially done taking the bottle. We started at 3 weeks and he took it once a day until about 9 weeks and now just refuses. (I posted about this about 1 1/2 weeks ago but now he won't do it at all). I went to see my LC and she basically said he's made his decision and knows where his food comes from and would rather have it from me. SHe said to keep trying but since I'm not going back to work it's more of an inconvenience if I want to go out for more than 3 hours but it's not a necessity that he take it. FWIW- I know he knows how to do it- he's just refusing...and if he was hungry enough I'm sure he'd take it.
ANYWAY-----
I have about 75 oz of frozen breastmilk in my freezer and I'd hate it to go to waste. I was thinking about donating it to the hospital and just keeping a few bottles-worth in case of emergency. There's really no reason to keep it if he's refusing, right? Should I donate it? I'm just worried if I donate it, he'll start taking the bottle again and I'll regret getting rid of it. WWYD?
Re: WWYD?? Re: Donating breastmilk
check to see when it will expire... if it's not a deep freeze, it won't last THAT long...
I personaly just couldn't donate that kind of a stash... I'd want to use it. I also could never be the only person to feed my babies - I would keep trying the bottle so that baby would eat if I had to be away from him, for an emergency, or just to get out now and then.... I have friends who didn't do the bottle, then wanted to go to an event and couldn't bc their baby wouldn't take it... I wouldn't be happy about that.
donating is a sweet idea - find out what the rules are about donations - they might have some restrictions that will help make the choice for you.
I'd hang on to it... you never know what might happen... you could get sick with a cold or something and your supply tank temporarily etc.. and he might be forced to take a bottle if he wants to eat
and he'll take BM better than formula in that situation... promise
And there are A LOT of hoops to jump through to donate... long health screening, blood work, forms signed by your doc and baby's doc, etc.. and most places require a minimum donation (like 100 or 200 oz). And not all places allow you to donate milk that was pumped and frozen before you were all signed up as a donor.
I hate to talk anyone out of donating because it's wonderful!! But in your situation I don't think it's worth it..

I had the same issue and had around the same amount of frozen bm and I kept it. I had it frozen in small portions (all 3 oz portions or less) and so when I did have to leave her for more than 3 hours my parents or ILs could at least offer her a bottle. Sometimes she'd take an ounce or so out of desperation and I'd end up throwing the other 1 - 2 ounces out. It was hard to see it go to waste but there wasn't much more I could do. When dd was 4 months old we started rice cereal for a few days (it didn't go well and I stopped giving it to her) but I used the frozen bm to mix with the cereal.
I finally offered her a sippy cup at 5.5 months because she was refusing the bottle. She understood how to use it and started taking some bm from that when I was gone. Just this past weekend we left her over night with my ILs and I forgot the sippy and all they had was bottles. Dd FINALLY (at 7 months old) took a bottle! She also took one for my mom 2X this week when she was watching her for a couple of hours.
