Bottle to sippy Help

So I've been trying to get Sophie to drop the bottle, per her Pedi.  They brought it up the last 2 visits.  The Dr. gave me a good suggestion to try the Nuby sippy cup cause it has a spout that you have to suck to get the liquid out like a bottle.  She likes it and does great with juice/water but with milk she drinks about an oz. and realizes its the sippy cup and doesn't want anymore.  How long did it take your LO to be ok with milk in the sippy?  Also, the Dr. said to just switch cold turkey, no transition.

Re: Bottle to sippy Help

  • Keira does exactly the same thing and she is 17 months old!  Weight gain is a top priority for her so I've decided not to sweat the bottle as long as she's getting the nutrition she needs.  Not ideal, but I'm choosing my battles here!

  • We agreed that formula is in bottles, WCM is in sippies, so when we got the OK for WCM, we brought out the sippy cup! I just started offering it with meals, with a couple of ounces in it.

Max was totally NOT into it for a couple of months, until he spent a Saturday with my 3 year old niece, and she "showed him" how to use the sippy, and we haven't looked back!

One thing, we took the anti-leak valves out of the cups, at the PT's suggestion. She said that if they have to suck (like a bottle) then there's no reason to learn how to control flow and such. So we have slightly messy sippies, but we just keep an eye on him with it if it's milk (I'm not as worried about water! LOL)

  • i agree with mcdev. what's the big freakin' deal if kids are on the bottle longer than a year. really? we tried to transition R at 12 months. he wasn't having any part of it. tried again at 21 months and he was totally fine with it. however he does not drink more than 2 oz at a time now that he is on the cup. so we really have to push him to drink more milk. is that a battle you want to fight right now?
