probably a dumb question re: storing BM

so, I pumped for the first time today (I know, kind of a late start), and I only did one side, but I filled 1 1/2 of those 3 oz. freezer containers. Can I save the 1/2 in the refrigerator and fill it completely when I pump again tomorrow (I am only going to pump once a day for now) and put it in the freezer, or should I just put the 1/2 filled container in the freezer and start a new container with tomorrow's milk? TIA!

Re: probably a dumb question re: storing BM

  • personally, I would keep it in the fridge and mix it with tomorrows, unless you think you will use a 1.5 oz serving at some point.  If you would use the smaller portion, freeze it that way, but otherwise, you are just wasting containers and freezer space :)

  • that's what i thought, but i just wanted to make sure it was ok to mix milk from different sessions. thanks!
  • I would refrigerate it, pump tomorrow, refrigerate that, and mix them once the new BM is at the same temp as the old BM.  I would do it this way because if you add warm BM to cold BM, you are technically warming-up the cold BM.
