Anyone still use sleep sacks?

I still use one for DD2.  She's starting to reach the end of it (she's getting a little tall for it).  I don't use it for "safety" reasons, I use it because she would be blanket-less all night without it.

Her room is in the corner and a bit on the chilly side at night so I feel like she needs more than a footy sleeper to keep her warm.  There's no way she'd keep a loose blanket on her all night with all the moving she does at night.

And living in MN with looooong winters, she needs to stay warm at night.  I'm thinking about buying the next size up to get us through the winter.  Then by the time next winter hits, she should be at an age where she'll keep a blanket on while she sleeps.

Just wondering if I'm alone still using one...and if you don't use one but are in a cold-weather climate, what do you use to keep your LO warm?

  • My dd is a bit younger but almost always refuses to sleep without one.  Right now she's in the 12-18 mos size, I'm hoping she gets over needing it by the time she's in the next size. If it works for you , I would say keep using it, there really isn't a reason not to.

  • We just stopped using them. DD is doing ok with the blanket but most times she is uncovered when I go to get her in the morning. I make sure she has socks on inside the sleeper. Good luck.

  • Gosh--i didn't realize we were in such a minority here.  I still use it for DS--he's almost 15 mos and 27 pounds--he's wearing a L and I just bought an XL just in case he's still wearing it.  he stinks at using a blanket---so this is the best bet for us.  Although I'm curious if it's hurting his ability to STTN--maybe being in it is hurting the process????  (wishful thinking).  We just started using it though--maybe a couple mos ago.

  • I just bought ds some after a visit to SIL's.  Nephew wears one and he is 2yrs 7months.  I think it's the only way to keep ds warm during the winter.
  • How well can the child move in the sleep sacks?  I would like to get some for DS, but he is all over the place when he sleeps.  I am afraid that when he tries to roll around, the limited range of motion would wake him up.

Also, I know gerber has thermal underware.  Instead of the sleep sack and footie pjs, maybe thermals &socks with the footies...?

  • I have used them from day one and still using one!  DS is about 23 lbs now and will soon reach the end of his soon, but I think they are great.  We have a light cotton one that he sleeps in so that he is at least covered.  I've tried giving him just a blanket but he kicks it off and doesn't sleep as well.  I think I will keep using it until he is old enough to get how the blanket works!

It does not inhibit her ability to move at all.  In fact, she can still pull to stand in her crib when she's wearing it.  It sometimes gets in the way when she pulls up and she gets frustrated, but it doesn't last long.

I don't know if brand matters, but we have the Halo brand with the open arm holes.  She wears a footy fleece sleeper and the fleece sleep sack over that.
