Success after IF

For those who stopped Met after first tri

Hi~

Did you stop cold turkey or tapper?

Did you have any side effects after stopping, ie) weight gain, change in eating, etc?

When were you told to restart after giving birth?  After breastfeeding?

Thanks :)

  • My RE told me to finish the bottle.  Once it was done, stop.  I didn't have any issues.  I think the bottle was finished about 8 weeks.  My dr said if I wasn't trying to get pregnant there was no reason to take it.

  • I stopped at 16 weeks - cold turkey. My doctor told me to stop anytime I wanted after 12 weeks and that is when the bottle ran out.  I had no side effects from stopping and don't think I"ll start again unless I'm trying to get pregnant.
  • I stopped at 12 weeks, cold turkey. I didnt have any side effects. I have not been put back on it.
  • I also stopped cold turkey at 12 weeks.  I am not insulin-resistant, so it made no difference to me, I didn't notice any change in eating habits.  Of course I am gaining weight, but not at a rapid or problematic rate.  I don't think I will ever go on it again, since my RE had me on it because he thought it would improve egg quality.

  • I have non-insulin resistant PCOS.  I was told I could stop anytime after the first trimester.  I think I may have tapered down for a few days (3 pills to 2 to 1).  I didn't have any side effects that I was aware of.  Since I'm not TTC I have not resumed taking it.
After 20 months TTC with PCOS, we were blessed with twins!

  • I stopped cold turkey.  I didn't have any s/e after stopping, and have actually been pleased that I've been able to manage my weight so well during the pregnancy given that the OB said I shouldn't gain more than 15 lbs. during (which I still don't understand completely given that the "baby & stuff" amounts to 30 lbs. on the sheet they gave me...)  Then again, I never lost weight on met, so that was never an effect.  I've largely maintained the same eating habits that met forced me into, i.e., limited carbs, protein focus, etc.  Have not given birth yet, so I can't answer that one.

  • I stopped around 10 weeks and I stopped cold turkey.  I didn't have any side effects, so that was good.  I didn't start up again until just recently and only b/c we are going to start TTCing for #2.
    Nothing to see here....
  • Thanks for asking this question b/c I have been told by my RE and now my OB to stop cold turkey at 12 weeks. I am nervous about side effects and have been worried about it. Everyone's post has made me feel sooo much better. THANKS Y'ALL!!!
  • yep, me too.  Cold turkey, no side effects, won't restart it until TTC#2.
  • with my first pg i tapered down slowly - even though the doc said to stop cold turkey - i was just so worried...

with the twins i stopped cold turkey- b/c i finished the bottle and didn't have the brain power to think about tapering off :)

Neither time did i have any s/e --- i was pg - weight gain is expected!

i had my blood tested after i stopped nursing griffin and my sugar levels were at the high end of normal - the regular endo said i could go on met or not - up to me.  I went on met again thinking it would help me lose weight- but being on met + bcp was hell for my body - i felt like i had the flu ... once i stopped i was better- so no more met until i was TTC again.

I'm not going back on met again. I don't really need it- since my sugar levels are OK.
