Hi Ladies,
I've finally gathered up some energy at trying to get my Hospital Bag all packed & ready. What are the MUST HAVES to pack? And did you pack your LO a Diaper Bag as well? Please help! This is stressing me out for some reason haha
Thanks in advance!!
*Sorry if this is a common 3rd Tri Lurker question ( I did try and search the board first but turned up with nothing)... ![]()
Re: Hospital Bag Must Haves?? Help!
what i packed & used..
**empire waist dresses...i lived in these for the first couple of weeks & hated being seen in my night gowns in front of people
**toothbrush, hair brush, shampoo, conditioner. i also packed blow dryer & straightener just to feel human. and plus my hair doesnt dry pretty naturally
**full bottom underwear with a good fit.
**the longest & thickest pads you can find over the counter. i wasnt comfortable wearing a diaper home.
**computer, camera, extra memory card & plenty of batteries/power cords.
**PILLOWS! :]
for LO...
**if your hosp does pictures, outfit for that.
**if you want LO in thier "own" clothes vs the hosp onesie, onesies for this.
**blankets.
**the hosp provides diapers & wipes while baby is there so dont worry about that. same goes for formula, if your not BFing.
**any other warm clothing, LO would need to go outside with, depending on temp.
HTH! PM me if you have any other questions. i also recommend packing an extra bag in your bag. people bring gifts & you'll want something to put dirty clothing in.
you literally need nothing for your LO except a carseat to bring him/her home in. the hospital provides diapers, wipes, blanket and even a shirt. i didn't even bother putting him in the outfit i brought b/c the ride was just 3 minutes home and he was asleep and i didn't want to wake him.
for myself, just a nursing tank, yoga pants, and toiletries.
extra clothes for DH and toiletries for him too.
good luck! see you here soon!
two outfits for LO. ours peed on his and didn't get to wear it home
granny throwaway undies for you
slippers/socks for hospital stay
nice robe you can throw on when visitors come (i'm in the nasty hospital gown in all my 200+ pics
nursing bra (my boobs were down to my waist in all the pics
GL and enjoy your baby ?
my must haves were:
my own clothes (just pj pants and nursing tanks with a zip up hoodie)... my baby was in the NICU/special care nursery and it was horrible riding/walking down the halls in the hospital gowns
my phone charger and laptop (was up at night pumping and needed something to do- may not use a laptop if LO rooms in)
my own toothbrush (the hospital provides any toiletries you will need, but the toothbrushes are worthless)
my own pillow (I hate the waterproof hospital pillows, the pillowcase falls off then your face sticks to the pillow....)
lanolin if you plan to bf/pump
As for LO, we brought her clothes and blankets from home for in the nursery, totally not necessary, but it made us feel better
Here's what I used from my bag:
Most of the ladies who have responded already covered most of it. My only addition would be a squeeze water bottle. I arrived at the hospital at 7am and didn't deliver DS until 9:30 at night. I got really thirsty during labour and since I'd had the epi, I was on my back for a lot of the day. It was much easier to drink the water from a squeeze bottle rather than from a cup (which I tried to use and spilled all over myself).
Also - DH helped hold my leg while I pushed, which meant he was standing non-stop for 3 hours (yes - I pushed for 3 hours) - not including the time before I got the epi (another 3 hours) when I insisted he press on my lower back while I leaned against the wall. He wished he had throught to bring more comfortable shoes rather than the Teva's he hd worn. Although he didn't dare complain, I heard him telling a friend who's wife was about to give birth, to bring a pair of comfortable shoes.
Things I used:
For DS:
For DH:
I'm not going through and reading all the responses, but just in case no one said it...
Slippers or socks! Hospital floors are gross!
