Chances doc is wrong about gender?

I went to the doctor for the anatomy u/s on Thursday and the dr said GIRL! And my boyfriend asked if there was any chance that "he" could have been hiding a weewee, the dr laughed and said no, it's all girl. So I'm fairly confident she is right but I know it's possible for her to get it wrong. So...did any of you end up with a boy when they said girl, or vice versa?

Re: Chances doc is wrong about gender?

  • We couldn't tell the gender, but I have 2 friends who were told that they were having girls and had boys.  Did you see the 3 lines/girl parts or just not see the penis?  If they just assumed girl because they didn't see the penis, then the chances are higher it is wrong than if they actually saw girl anatomy.

  • I had a friend who was told boy and had a girl. But I think the odds of that happening are very slim.
  • Your boyfriend said weewee? lol. He knows the baby comes out of the vagina, right?

  • My BFF was told she was having a girl. A few weeks later and a different u/s made it very clear she was having a boy.

  • My friend was told boy and had a girl, but the ultrasound was the day before she delivered (at full term) and there really wasn't much space in there to see.

Both times, the ultrasound has been right for me. I was told boy at 16 weeks, and have a boy. this time, I was told girl at 18 weeks, and it was confirmed by amnio.

I think most ultrasound techs and docs can tell what they're looking at, most of the time.

  • Hen we had our regular ultrasound with DS the tech told us boy. I was still having dreams that the baby was a girl and we did not get it pointed out to us why she said boy, so we waited a little bit longer and paid to have a 3D one done and we found out there that there was no question about it! So it was worth it to me to pay the$$ and find out for sure. If you think it would help put your mind at ease you might check into that.
  • This is very similar to our situation only I'm the one worried that the boy good were just hiding but DH feel pretty confident in the tech and doctor (the doc and tech said the 3 lines were there, but in the pictures I really can't see it).  We are just going to go in for another u/s to make me feel better.

  • We had an US done at 19 weeks were the tech said girl and DH and I were in such a state of shock that I forgot to really keep looking at the screen. Well after a month of annoying him and not believing it could be a girl because that woudl be my luck (we have 2 little boys) we paid for a 3D ultrasound in which I had told her what the original tech had said, and first shot that we saw on the screen was of her behind and there was no doubt about it...GIRL! :)) And this time I got to see her 3 lines many times on DVD. Like a PP said, you should invest in a 3D u/s if you can for peace of mind.

  • A woman I work with was told girl girl girl at every scan.....and then she had George.  :)   Poor little guy had to sleep in a pink room for quite some time!  hehehe
  • My mom's friends daughter was told that she was having a girl, but it turned out to be a boy. They didn't find out it was a boy until she delivered and she had got tons of girl things for the baby.

  • I don't have a story about a boy/girl mix up, but when we had our ultrasound, it was VERY obvious it was a boy.  I hope your BF is happy with a girl, that is great news!

Uhh. Noooooo... everyone knows it comes out of the hoo-ha.

  • Everyone always knows someone that the ultrasound was wrong for.  I was that person.  Our doctor did our ultrasound and told me that it was for sure a girl.  He said 99% sure.  Went on to give me a print out of three little lines and everything.  6 weeks later at our 3d ultrasound, we found out we were having a boy.  We had to repaint and reregister for everything.  Quite a crazy experience!!
