Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

If you have a 16 month old

Can you share with me what kinds of things they're doing/into right now?  I'm due in June with #2 when Noah will be 16 months and I feel like I have no idea what kinds of things he might be doing then. I know every kid is different, but just out of curiosity I wanted to ask you guys. Thanks!

Re: If you have a 16 month old

  • I've been showing DS how to color with crayons - not going great but he's getting the hang of it =)

He loves *mechanical* things - he is obsessed with the straps and buckles on the carseats and the highchair so I've been meaning to buy him so puzzles - he loves figuring our new things.

Playing outside - the kid would live outside if I let him - hates being stuck indoors. We play outside a lot!!

ETA - now that the weather is turning I would like to get him a water table for inside - he loves playing in water!!! You look away for a second and he's splashing in the dog's water bowl, lol.

  • dd is only 15 months (just turned) and at home and in day care she loves to color with crayons and markers. She loves to paint and play with edible play dough. I want to get her a little tunnel and a ball pit for christmas. She loves puzzles and books. She plays with her dolls and likes her toys ex: playschool and fisherprice things. She will also get a kitchen for christmas

  • Our DS is 15 months and he loves musical toys as well as anything with push buttons or strings.  He really likes playing with household items like the cordless phone and remote controls.  He is also getting into blocks and trucks.
  • Ditto the pp - DS loves trying to figure out the mechanics of things. He loves puzzles, blocks and books. His new obsession is light switches. Any time one catches his eye he points at it and says, "that?". I take him over and let him flip it off and on a few times.

We haven't started him on crayons yet - maybe I'll pick some up this weekend. He's also just starting to take a few steps, so we practice that a lot.

  • My son was 15 months old when DD was born. He too, really likes puzzles, shape sorters. He also loved his baby sister and wanted to hold her all the time and help hold the bottle. She gets lots of kisses from him each day too. It is so fun to see him like that. GL!

  • DS just turned 17 months.  His favorites right now are balls, books, puzzles, blocks and trucks.  Pretty much in that order.  Some days he's also really into stuffed animals - he will line them up and pretend to feed them, carry them around, etc.  Other days, not so much.  I'm really encouraging & affirming the nurturing play with his stuffed animals right now hoping it will translate to caring for our new baby due in a couple months!

He's just starting to get into craft stuff more.  Crayons are fun but need LOTS of supervision.  Stickers are exciting but he wants to use the entire sheet, so I only take out as many as I'm willing to let him have right then.  He's not too into playdough or finger paints, but that's because he doesn't like dirty hands!  LOL.
