WWYD if someone bought you the wrong carseat?

My shower is Sunday and so far no one has bought the carseat we registered for. I did alot of research to make sure it had good reviews and met all of my paranoid standards. MIL asked if we had a carseat yesterday, and I told her no but we have one on our registery.                                    She said "I can get one." I dont mind if she gets us a carseat but I would like it to be the one I picked out. I called my mom and mentioned what happend with MIL and she kind of got weird when I mentioned how I only want  the certain carseat.                                                                      So NOW I'm freaked out that my mom or mil went out and bought whatever carseat they wanted. (the carseat we chose is about  $145.00) I would completly understand if that is too much $$ to spend and I don't mind if I have to get it myself. So what the hell do I do at my shower if I get the wrong carseat from either one of them?! I think I would feel bad for returning a carseat then showing up with LO in a different one. I don't want to hurt anyones feelings.. :S                                                                               Sorry this was long and I hope a don't sound like a whinny brat.

  • You can always say you HAD to return it because it was not compatible with your car

  • I would take it back. You are not being whiny at all! Car seat safety is so important and that is why we research and put efforts into our decisions. You could always say you opened it and it was damaged and they were put of stock so you picked a different seat. Or just be honest and explain that you researched and found a good car seat for your LO that was safe and fit your needs. Show them safety ratings if you have to!
  • Just wait to see what they got, and return it if you don't like it.  Or sell it if you can't return it for any reason.

  • Maybe they haven't bought it yet... they still have time!  And if you get a car seat you didn't want just return it for the one you do want!! People will understand!!
  • You ladies are so crafty! I love all those ideas! Maybe I could say it was recalled! Wink Thanks for helping me out! I really don't want them to feel bad about trying to help us out. Car safety has changed alot since their days.. My greatgrandma use to put my mom laying down in the back seat with a blanket as a bumper so she wouldn't roll onto the floor! Scary! UHH gives me goosebumps!

  • My MIL offered to buy us a carseat. I thanked her and emailed her the link for the seat we want. I said, "Just wanted to save you the research! This seat has great safety ratings and is compatible with both of our cars." She was totally happy with that and got us the seat we wanted. I might have done it differently if we wanted an uber-expensive seat, but it was the Graco Snugride 32.

Try doing that with your MIL. If someone buys you a seat you don't think is good enough for your LO, return it. People's feeling don't come before your LO's safety.

  • You could always wait to see what they got you, then research it and read reviews and maybe you'll even decide to keep it. Big Smile
  • What about the excuse that it is not compatible with your stroller?
  • I would take it back with no excuse given to your MIL.
  • whinny brat! lol just kidding. I got another whole travel system and the stroller that I registered for but not the car seat that I wanted so I returned the stroller system and got my car seat that I had researched . I'm hoping the person doesn't realize that I returned it and got something else :(

  • OK Mama, you're getting WAY too obsessed with this. Just return it. Explain it was not the one you picked out after all your research and/or you simply like the one you picked out better. People will understand. Maybe you could use the one from MIL (if that is indeed what she's giving you--you're a little ahead of yourself here also--maybe she bought you something else) in hubby's car? It's good to have an extra seat around. There are SO MANY other things to be concentrating on right now...
  • I would return it.  My MIL wanted to buy our travel system for us with DD (she has this need to buy the biggest thing so she can out-do anyone else) so she asked a friend if we'd be ok with a different one that was half the cost (and wasn't as highly rated at that time).  My friend told her that if MIL got us the one she picked out, she knew we'd take it back and get the one we wanted, so she suggested to MIL to go in on it with other people.  MIL wasn't happy about it, but that's what she ended up doing so she knew we'd keep it.

There are some things I don't mind if someone gets something different, but when it's something we put a lot of time and effort researching, I want what I picked.
