I'm trying to decide if i should get one. We are not going to have a dresser in the room for a few years since the room is on the small side and we are getting a glider there really isn't much room for it. We have a huge Built in and a closet and were going to do a closet organizer in it.
Does any one have any suggestions on what to use if we don't buy one? I'm just wondering if it's worth it 150.00 for something you might use for 2 years. I have been looking for a use one but, have had no luck.
Re: Do you use your changing table?
if you have a low dresser, then I don't think you would need a changing table.
I will say that I use our changing table all of the time but I would use a dresser top the same amount. They have some cute diaper caddy things that you'd put on top for changing times.
I also used the bassinet portion of the PNP as a changing table in the living room so I wasn't always having to go back to the nursery. I had a csection so it was really nice not having to walk too much around for diaper changes when I was in the living room.
I use mine all the time for everything from diaper changes to putting up her hair & dressing her.
Having said that, IKEA has some that are really cute & a couple of them fold up when you're not using it.
ETA: Mine is also a dresser. It's the Davinci Kalani Changing table with 3 drawers under it. It's pretty small since M's room is pretty small right now.
I couldn't justify a piece of furniture we'd have no use for after a couple of years either, so instead, I bought a low antique dresser with a mirror and just put a changing pad on top of it. It only cost me $100 and it works perfectly right now, DS loves to look in the mirror while I'm changing him and when we don't need it as a "changing table" anymore, it'll just be a dresser for him. Its handy to have all his clothes in the drawers below too, so I can just pull out an outfit while he's on the changing table.
And like a pp said, with a little boy, you don't want to be changing him places that aren't "protected" and/or easily cleaned b/c he WILL pee on everything.
I didn't use it that much when he was really little. It was just easier to lay out a blanket over the couch because we spent most of our time in our family room. Once he got mobile (crawling then walking) I used it all the time. It was impossible to change him on the couch or rug anymore because he would roll over and try to crawl away - which is not good with a poopy diaper and furniture and carpeting. I take him now into the nursery and change him. He is still roly poly but he sort of gets the idea that this is where we change diapers and I just need to calm down for 2 minutes. For the occasions he does still try to escape, at least the mess is contained on a washable changing pad cover.
You don't have to buy a changing table either - I know lots of people who just got a dresser and put one of the pads on top of it (just secure it down so it doesn't slide all over the place). That way at least if you spend the money the dresser can be used once you don't have babies.
We have a dresser with a changing pad on top of it. I use it some of the time otherwise I just change him on the bed or the floor of the playroom. It was definitely used more when he was younger.
I also used these when he was younger to have a waterproof barrier underneath him if we changed him somewhere other than the changing pad in case of accidents. They worked pretty well for him.
Whelp, I may be the only one here but I have never used my changing table. We do use it as a dresser too, so it's not wasted space but the pad thats sitting on top has only held her once and that was when my mom decided she needed to use it at least once and changed her diaper there. We don't actually have diapers in her room either.
We use a waterproof pad and a tightly woven flannel cloth (you can get them at BRU but I can't find them online). We have one set in our bedroom and one downstairs. If we're upstairs she gets changed on our bed. If we're downstairs she gets changed whereever we are - on the couch or on the floor.
We also have little baskets of changing stations - diapers, wipes, butt paste, extra flannel cloths.
So I say, nope you don't need a changing table, you don't even need a dresser. Diapers can be changed where ever you need to do it.

Can't stress it enough - little baby boys PEE!
Do not try to change your baby anywhere that is hard to clean. I have had him pee on my bed, on my floor, on the couch, on my ILs kitchen table, on my aunt's couch, on the floor in a restaurant bathroom, and numerous times on my parents' kitchen table. Took a while for me to accept that he'd pee when air hit his man business, but I can say that we change him in his room whenever possible.
For a changing table, you can use a dresser, a "real" changing table (perhaps a cheapie Ikea one?), or whatever suits. We have a folder plastic 4' table from Lowe's that we use, and we keep the big boxes of diapers and wipes from BJs below it. The nursery is very small (8'x10'), and I like that the table can be used elsewhere when we're done with diapers or can fold flat.
We have a dresser/changer combo and use it almost exclusively. We have him in the PNP now and have a changer attachment, he;s too big for it now but we used it alot the first few weeks. That's the reason I quoted. TJ actually peed from the changer attachment onto the part he sleeps in! I highly recommend a changing table of some form, he's gotten my mom's couch twice and left a wet spot on our floor. So much easier to clean a changing pad!
Sorry this is a late post. But when I was pg everyone I knew told me not to bother to get a changing table because I would never use it. So I didn't buy one. However, a wonderful friend of mine bought us a very nice pack n play that had both the bassinet and changing table attachment. And can I tell you thank god it does, because we use it for every change. I love it and would highly recommend it. However, when looking for one of the pack n plays that has this feature....make sure you check the height of the changing table. I am sort of tall (5'8") and my sister-in-law has a pack n play with a changer on it that is really low and kills my back when I use it. Mine is just the right height. No matter what you decide. enjoy.
