Rec. Your Photo Editing Program

I'm looking into buying a photo editing program, and need some ideas, thoughts, experiences? I have paintshop and photoshop. Still getting used to photoshop though.

TIA

  • Lightroom is my primary editor.  Photoshop comes second.

Try looking for tutorials online.  I personally think you should be using one of the two.  You'll outgrow anything else, so you might as well start with them. ;)

Is lightroom made by Adobe and is it expensive? You use regular Lightroom? I've heard of lightroom 2 as well that's why I ask.

  • I'm glad you posted this- i've been wanting to get into photoediting but not sure where to start and if i'd even have time! photoshop costs so much money too I worry I won't be able to get into it and figure it out- thus wasting my money

I use Lightroom 2.2 and yes it's from Adobe.  I have also used previous versions.  There are more tools and features in the newest version.  I believe the adjustment brush and clone/heal tool is a couple of them and they're some of my favorite features as I no longer really need to use two programs to work on one image anymore.  There are free (30 day) trials available.  I recommend downloading trials before buying any product.

There is also Adobe Photoshop Elements.  It is under $100 (I think it's like $75) and it has many features of the full version of Photoshop, plus it's great for a beginner.  I haven't used it in a while, but I was impressed for the price.

I do not like Paint Shop.  It's not meant for photographers.  It's meant for teenage girls who want to make wallpapers and icons. lol

    LOL On the Paintshop :)

Thanks for the info, I'm going to look into Lightroom and play with Photoshop a bit more.

  • I use Lightroom.  It's so user friendly.  I've used Photoshop Elements, and while I liked it, it's just not as simple to use as Lightroom.
