F/U to Power Pumping

This is pretty depressing. I got even less than usual at my next pumping session.

I do get significantly more during the actual power pump, but I can't spend my whole life hooked up to the pump. I really hope the fenugreek and blessed thistle will help because I feel like such failure that my body won't do what it's supposed to. I want to EBF so badly.

Re: F/U to Power Pumping

  • your only 2 weeks out .. how much do you think is "depressing?"

  • I've been "hooked up" to the pump since about the same time and I recently went back to work so it's even more.

Just relax cause your supply is probably not even established yet. Stress does not help.

  • My usual is about an ounce total.

My son has a great latch and knows how to BF. The problem is that there isn't enough milk to keep him interested at the breast. He'll latch on and suck, make a face, and push himself away. When we use a lactation aid that gives him formula while he sucks, he'll stay on the breast.

So I'm trying to build up my supply ASAP because I hope that will resolve the whole problem.

When I say hooked up to the pump, I mean during a power pump. I can't stay on the pump all day long.

  • I'm right there with you.  I had to stop EBFing and start supplementing when DS was two weeks old due to weight loss.  I've been mostly pumping (with a sad yield, lol) and taking Fenugreek/Blessed Thistle ever since.

  • honestly, my mature milk didn't come in until about 2 weeks.

it could be something else that is making him pull off...forceful let down

most studies show that very few women don't actually make enough milk.

    hang in there.

Were you pumping prior to 2 weeks, then? How much were you getting?

It could be something else. I hadn't really considered that since he does so well when we use the lactation aid.

  • Keep pumping! You will get more in time... don't worry!

i tend to be a rule follower and since it isn't recommended to pump before your mature milk comes in, i didn't.

i started at about 3 weeks, right before i went back to work.

the baby sucking is more of a signal to your brain to get the bewbs to workin'

i really would just continue to offer the breast.

    good luck!
