this weeks theme: Oktoberfest.
We have brats, kraut, etc.. Need snacks and such.
Go!
In Austria, there is this spread called Liptauer that is like heaven on a cracker, I swear. Its basically cream cheese, butter, capers, paprika, shallots and maybe a few other spices/herbs.
You can probably get a recipe from epicurious.
Beer Pretzels or the pretzels in the frozen section
German potato salad
that's all I can think of
I am well aware that you are going to nix all of this, but here's what I have:
Apfelstrudel
Scwartzwaeldkischtorte (Black forest cake)
Linzertorte
Spaetzle (even better when its kaesspaetzle, basically, its mac and cheese)
Potato pancakes
Cucumber salad with red onions
stuffed cabbage
Kaiserschmarm (its called an omlette, but really its like a big puffy pancake topped with fruit compote, usually plums)
goulasch
Wiener Schnitzel
home fried potatoes
I love your ideas!
I've already written down the Liptauer dip and was considering a strudel!
Beer, beer, and more beer!
Seriously though, I'd do a German style potato salad for another side and pretzels and nuts for snacks.
ETA: and everything that Michele suggested. YUM!
i could eat my weight in this stuff. love it with onions too.

Its perfect with fried onions on top.
