3rd Trimester

Second time moms

Did your doctor give you different instructions for when to go to the hospital this time? I know the standard rules for the first time, but wondering if they want you to go sooner with the second. I totally forgot to ask my doctor, but the hospital binder they gave me does say to go sooner.

Re: Second time moms

  • My doctor said 8 min. apart. ?
  • Loading the player...
  • with my second the doctor didn;t tell me to go sooner but I wish I would have.....I delivered the baby as soon as I was checked in and they hung the first I.V. bag for GBS. (had my first contraction around 1 and had the baby around 4) I think they come sooner the second time because your body already knows what to do. (mine were ten years apart and this made no difference)
  • my ob office says the 5-1-1 rule for first time moms and second timers should call/come in when contractions are 6-7 min apart.

  • My Dr's standard answer is contractions 5 min apart, lasting an hour and contractions lasting a minute.  Always feel free to call if you have concerns...

  • haven't gotten that far in discussions yet!  last time i was induced so this time will be totally different-i hope! :)
  • Hmmm, I can't remember. I will have to ask next week. They may have suggested that I call and talk to them when I'm in labor. I had a loooong labor with DS.

  • My first labor was quick (7 hours start to finish) and so they told me not to wait it out at home the second time around because I would most likely go more quickly.  Sure enough, second labor was 3.5 hours start to finish.  Both times I went in about 30 minutes after my water broke.
  • Hmmm, I haven't asked this yet. I joke that I'm going to have this baby on the couch since I've already been to L&D twice and sent home and don't want to go back til I'm sure. Good thing I've got an appt in a few hours to check.

OP: looks like we're due on the same day, and Norah is actually a name we liked that DH vetoed cause it's his cousin's name.

generally 7-9 minutes apart for second time--but it has been almost 5 years for me since the last so she said I shouldnt rush--i could probably wait until 5-6 mins apart and still be ok
