Preemies

Here's my vent and why I deserve a cookie.

LO had a roommate in her unit, a little boy who spent about 2 weeks in the NICU because his mother made some really sh!tty decisions. She was taking percocets, smoking marijuana, and a littany of other drugs while pregnant. (Nothing she was taking was prescribed).

It killed me to see that DYFS (child protective services) placed that little boy with her aunt, who in turn said the cvnt could move in with her and raise the little boy. She got to take her LO home with her yesterday- someone who voluntarily made choices that negatively impacted an innocent person.

And the stupid cvnt had the nerve to tell me that when she was visiting her son, she would hear my LO cry and said "Aw I wanted to go over and pick her up, she is so cute and sounded to sad". I just looked at her.

I want a cookie because I didn't bash her face in or threaten to bash her face in if she even stepped into a 10 foot radius of my LO. (Not that the NICU nurses would allow her anywhere near LO). Ugh. Just a piece of sh!t.

  • yeah, we encountered our fair share of low lifes in our NICU too.  Their babies seemed to whiz in & out of the NICU without any problems while our baby was there 2 weeks past her due date.  Hopefully karma will make her rounds soon!

  • If you HAD bashed her in the face, I would have baked you some cookies myself. ;)

  • yeah i dealt with this during my NICU stay. The nurses would comment on how backwards the child protective system was. The child needs to be taken away from their drug addict parent not placed with a relative who is going to supervise the druggie...just so very sad :(
  • I don't know the whole story, but I'm nosey and listen while the nurses talk.. there is a baby on the pediatric floor that was born in the hospital and has never left.  He had his first birthday this week.  His parents visited at first but have since abandoned him.. he is getting picked up by CPS and going into foster care this week.  From what I heard, part of the reason his stay was so long is because no one came to get him.  How flipping sad is that?  I want to take him.. DH is lucky I didn't try to adopt him.  LO could have a brother!  ha ha

  • Heather197...I'm in South Jersey too!
Claire Avery born at 32 weeks on 10/25/06 Keira Leigh born at 27 weeks on 4/29/08
  • in the middle of our stay (right before christmas) i watched as several nurses tried for several days to get a mom to come pick up her baby. she kept saying she didn't have arrangements made because they hadn't told her (they had, i overheard the conversations the day before), she had to work, blah blah blah.

meanwhile, the other 5 people in the room are holding their breath to find out if their LO will make it home by xmas. i wanted to take the baby myself. any mom that won't come get her child should lose the opportunity.

and, of course, when she did come, she was by herself and had about 4 kids in tow.

  • It's so hard :( There was a lady on my perinatal floor who would go outside and smoke every day and do little things like fill her own water bottle instead of letting the nurses do it. I never broke ANY of the rules and her baby was healthier than mine :(

OMG, that is HORRIBLE!! You don't happen to be in Az, do you? I want to adopt that poor sweet baby.

  • We saw a lot of drug addicts  (and a couple of 12 year old mothers) in the NICU too. It was upsetting, because they had these giant babies that just needed a few days before they were sent home, and I did EVERYTHING in my power to keep my kids cooking, hell I was eating close to 5000 calories a day for the last month of my pregnancy to try and make my kids as big as possible before they were born - and my littliest dude was in the clink for 8 weeks.
