until she doesn't want anymore. they usually lose interest and may turn their head away if you try to feed it to them... that's the indication they've had enough
I just feed until D goes into his classic refusal mode, which usually involves arching his back and trying to bat at my hand. I usually feel like he doesn't eat enough, but since he's rejecting the food, I'm not going to force him.
I try to make sure I give her a good mix throughout the day.
For breakfast, for example, I usually give her something with protein (like scrambled eggs with cheese or toast with cream cheese or peanut butter or a Yobaby 3-in-1 meal- veggies & yogurt) and some fresh fruit (whatever is in season). Lunch and dinner are usually tofu or meat or beans with some kind of grain or pasta and veggies. If we're on the go, she'll get a sandwich for lunch depending on what I have in the house or what I can get while we're out. She usually eats fruit and something with lots of carbs for her two snacks.
If you have one off day on which your child wants nothing but carrots, though, you look at the big picture of the entire week.
