Infertility

OHSS PLEASE HELP ME PLEASE!!!

I had my ER a week ago tomorrow (Friday, 10/9) and I feel like I'm going out of my mind.  They took 34 eggs with 19 fertilized which I know is great, but mother of God I can't take the pain or the bloat anymore.  I had to stay in the hospital all last weekend because of the pain and because I gained 9 pounds in one day and I couldn't urinate (they had to cath me which was terrible, but helped).  Last Sunday the doctor had to drain fluid from my abdominal cavity (and I think I am scarred for life from that experience).  Then I had to go back to the emergency room yesterday because of the pain, bloat, and the fact that I couldn't breath.  Turns out I have more fluid in my abdominal cavity and I have fluid in my lungs.  Last night and today the bloat and pain is back to being as bad as it was over the weekend and my weight is going back up.  I don't know what to do.  I feel like I am going crazy because I have been in pain for so long and I really don't think my stomach can get any bigger (I look like I'm about six or seven months pregnant).  The doctor keeps saying this is all normal because I have OHSS and I should be at the worst of it today and tomorrow.  Please tell me your OHSS stories and give me hope that this is almost over.  I literally have no one to talk to who has been through this and I am starting to question whether or not I did the right thing.  I don't know what to do.  If this sounds like a cry for help, it is.  Please tell me this is almost over.  I wouldn't wish this on anyone, but if it happend to you, please share your story so I can connect and relate with somebody...anybody.

  • Oh no!  This sounds like me in April!  I had to be drained 3 times, looked 6 months pregnant and was out of work for probably 2 weeks.  I also had fluid in my left lung which was causing excruciating pain (I slept sitting up in a recliner with a tennis ball behind me to add pressure where it hurt, which helped).  I wound up in the ER twice (once because I passed out and was very dehydrated and the second time because I couldn't get a breath in).  It was awful.  My only advice is to keep drinking fluids (even though it feels like it's just sitting in your gut sloshing around)--water, gatorade.  Eat lots of soups that are high in sodium.  I finally just had to deal with it.  I wanted my RE to drain me a 4th time and she wouldn't agree to it for fear of infection.  It DOES get better.  I know it may not seem like it.  I literally thought I was going to die.  Hang in there!!
  • Oh my gosh, that sounds terrible.  I can't really say I know what you mean, because I only had mild OHSS.  I had some fluid in my abdomen but not enough to drain, I gained 7 pounds in one day, everything hurt - every time I moved it hurt and I was really uncomfortable.  I ended up with an ileus and couldn't move my bowels for four days, I had difficulty urinating but didn't have to be cathed.  But my experience makes me really feel for you.  It took a solid week before I felt better, so I hope you will be feeling better very, VERY soon.  Please let us know how you are doing.  I'm so sorry you are going through this.  ((Hugs))
