Cost of RSV Shot

We were just approved for our RSV shot by our insurance.  Yay...kind of.  We have Horizon Blue cross Direct Access and they said they would pay 80%.  I know that's a lot, but that still leaves us with 20 % of a large bill!  And after 3 months of NICU bill for 2 babies, well our funds are currently being pushed to the max.  What did your insurance companies cover, if any?  Thanks!

Re: Cost of RSV Shot

  • fortunately we have 100% coverage.

Depending on your state and income, you may also qualify for medicare. My understanding is that they'll then pay 80% of YOUR portion (so 80% of the 20%) which can be a big help.

Do you have a maximum out of pocket expense?
Our insurance is changing next year (90% coverage) but we'll have a max OOP of 3k, which is what's going to save us.

  • We have 100%.

My pedi said it was $1000/mo per child for 5 mos.

  • we weren't approved. insurance would only cover under 3months..grr he's like 2 weeks too old!
  • We'll find out soon!
  • We had to pay $500 for each shot.  Total it was $2500.  I believe our insurance was 80/20 as well.
