has anyone had to supplement with formula and then been able to successfully switch back to exclusively BFing?
My baby wasn't getting enough colostrum and since my milk is barely just coming in (she's 5 days old) we had to supplement with formula. Now she is showing an interest in my breasts again and I'm seeing a lactation consultant for help today, but I just wanted to know if anyone has been able to switch back over to BFing after using a bottle. My pediatrician said many women can be successful with that.
If not, I suppose I can always pump - anyone had to do that? I'm just wondering how long i'd be able to keep my milk up just pumping.
Thanks!!!
Re: question about supplementing/weaning from formula
Absolutely it can be done! I don't believe too much in nipple confusion. Sure they stumble a little when you switch them back and forth but they figure it out. With the help of the LC, you'll be able to get her to latch on (given that there aren't any other issues with your nipples such as inverted or flat nipples).
Don't think about pumping just yet. Your DD will do fine!
