Re: Roosevelt or St. Vincent's?

  • I have 2 friends who recently delivered at Roosevelt & weren't happy with their experience there.  Also, if you plan on breastfeeding, Roosevelt recently cut their entire lactation consulting team, so that could be a big negative.

  • I delivered at Roosevelt, and overall, it was a really good experience.  The nurses were very attentive and helpful.  While they don't have separate lactation consultants that work in the hospital, the nurses are very knowledgeable and really helped me get the breastfeeding going.  I didn't give birth in the birthing center, but we took a tour of the rooms and they were nice.  Also, when I gave birth I was in a semi-private room, but they didn't end up putting anyone in my room til the last day which was great, so it was almost like I had a private room for free.  I don't know anything about St. Vincent's maternity ward, but my husband was there for a few days with a leg injury and he had a horrible nurse, so I'm a little biased against St. Vincents.

  • I work in the healthcare field, and St. Vincent's does not have a good reputation.  I can't speak to Roosevelt but I would definitely say no to St. Vincent's.
  • I gave birth at St. Luke's and had surgery at St. Vincent's and spent one night on the maternity floor.  If your only choice is these two hospitals, I would say no question you should deliver at St. Luke's.

I was very happy with my delivery there.  I had a room to myself a few nights and the other nights my roommates were nice.  At St. Vincent's my roommate was a 15 year old new mom who had all her friends in the room the whole time. The nurses were completely inattentive and I ended up having to call my doctor to "pull strings" to get a private room and some attention (it was THAT bad).
